Overall, I found Toyota of Stamford unprepared, aggressive, misleading, uncompetitive on pricing, and unknowlegeable. Resolution: purchased vehicle from competing Fairfield County dealer. I arrived for a scheduled appointment with Christian Nyquist and the Prius sales specialist (his name escapes me) as I was interested in a 2012 Prius and trading in my current vehicle. They gave me a real low-ball offer on my trade that was thousands of dollars below auction value, Edmunds trade-in and Kelly Blue Book. They came in at $8,500 and after unpleasant arguing came up to about $9200. I ended up getting nearly $12,000 for my trade from a competitor. I found the experience to be combative and Nyquist to be misleading. After giving me the low ball offer, I found out he was not giving me credit for my sun roof, alloy wheels, or leather. He even asserted that my car had high mileage for its year ($49,500 miles on a 2007 Camry--really?) and that after-market leather adds no value to the trade. If a customer will pay more for a feature, that should add something to the value. Also, giving the customer a physical tour of every defect and scratch on his car is not very pleasant. The salesman I spoke with also was unprepared and had to search around for a while to find a vehicle for me to look at despite an email prior to my appointment promising me that they'd have a couple cars for me to look at the met my criteria. Prius specialist argued with me about features, and was incorrect. Demonstrated ignorance regarding the model. Asserted, for example that there were no technological upgrades between Prius 2011 and 2012. Also didn't know what the touch tracer display was. As a final demonstration of their lack of care, when I sent an email to to the sales manager, Brandon Campell, that I delt with to provide feedback, he declined to respond. More
John, Brandon, Elaina were friendly, courteous, HONEST, professional and amazing. Our used car purchase was the best experience we have EVER had at a car dealership. John Henesy literally jumped through hoops to accomodate my daughter and myself. Because of my own errors (forgetting items etc.) we thought the pickup date of the "new" car would be postponed. Brandon and Elaina jumped in and made magic happen. We wer able to take the car home as expected. I honesly have to say that I had some reservations about the "car salesman" stereotype and went to this dealership with my guard up. The people we dealt with totally debunked this stereotype. We felt comfortable, at ease and trusting. I HIGHLY recommend this establishment. You will not regret your decision!!! More

Sales experience was very smooth. Derek worked with me to descrbe the various options available as well as the cost MRSP and Invoice. The lease on my 2008 Prius was scheduled to expire on May 1st, so when Toyota offered sales promotions on many of its vehicles I returned to Toyota of Stamford, where I leased my Prius, to see what kind of d 1st, so when Toyota offered sales promotions on many of its vehicles I returned to Toyota of Stamford, where I leased my Prius, to see what kind of deal they could make. I scheduled a meeting with Derek Kotarowski, the sales rep I worked with four years ago. Just the fact the same salesperson was there four years later is a good sign -- too often car salespersons move around like nomads. Derek, a Prius fanatic, asked me what features I wanted on my new car (I was already decided on another Prius), found me the only one on the lot that had them all. (OK, it also has a costly sunroof, which I didn't need, and which made it more expensive than I'd planned -- but my wife reminded me that I'd been complaining for four years that the 2008 Prius did not have a sunroof, so it worked out in the end.) However, by taking my older car in trade (it was worth more than the payoff) rather than letting me simply return it, adding in the sales incentives and massaging the numbers the way car salespeople do, Derek set up a deal for a three-year lease with minimum money down, mostly to cover registration, the first month's lease payment and the never-quite-explained "origination fee," at only 6 bucks a month more than I was paying for my first Prius. The remaining two payments on my older car went away, I drove the new (actually a 2011) Prius home a couple hours later, and I am a happy customer of Toyota of Stamford once again. Where is Toyota of Stamford lacking? The service department is a bit tired and not as sparkling as I'd like, although the service reps are friendly and helpful. The waiting area is small and the coffee isn't as good as I'd like. And they don't wash your car when they finish the service. However, in my experience the service has always been performed promptly, important if you're waiting for your car, and I've never had to return the car to have something taken care of that should have been done at the service. The Prius needs service only every 5,000 miles/6 months, so I can deal with this. (It's a lot better than the service experience I had with my former car, the one I sold to buy my original Prius, and it was a Mercedes.) So, in short, I recommend Toyota of Stamford, at least based on my experience. But one warning: Don't go there and talk to Derek unless you're ready to buy a car. He is an excellent, and persuasive, salesman, and you'll drive out in a new car. More
