Not even a year later when I had to make a choice of getting rid of my Prius or face repossession, I decided to trade in my Prius and my wife's Rav4 for another car at a different dealer. The reason for my poor review is because of the Finance person that I worked with. He is the first door to the right of the main desk in the lobby on the North Side. When I was attempting to trade in my vehicle and see what cancellables were available to me is where I found all the lies and deceit. First thing was that they changed the price of my car from when my wife and I first applied for finance to a higher price that was so well done that we didn't notice the $1,000 change. Second was that I was suppose to have a Toyota Warranty for my vehicle and I found out it was a non-Toyota warranty called National which doesn't cover near as much as the Toyota warranty that I was promised to have. After the trade was complete and I returned to Gladstone Toyota, the finance person that I mentioned above made up a number he felt was fitting for me to cancel my warranty. I even asked what is an estimate of what I was going to get back and how much was the original purchase price since the shades were over my eyes for a year. He said you'll get about 20-30% back and eluded to the actual price I paid for. While still working with him and he asked me why I wanted to cancel the warranty. I informed him that I traded the vehicle at a different dealership closer to home. He got really upset and even stated, "why didn't you come buy from us". He then did something on the computer that printed out a form that I wasn't able to see and when asked he wouldn't show me. Frustrated I called the warranty company and asked what did they need for a correct odometer reading. The company informed me that I should have received a odometer disclosure from trade. Sure enough I did and the difference from what the finance person came up with and the actual amount that I told him it was around was over 750 miles off. What I told him was about 100 miles at most off. I would seriously think again about working with Gladstone Toyota. They have been shady with my family since we got our Camry from them. I called and made an appointment to test drive some of the trucks and when I got there I was introduced to Jonathan Hale who I found to be very knowledgeable, mellow, and easy to talk to. One of the things I was a bit hesitant about when I was getting serious about buying, was dealing with going into a dealership and being drug around listening to an endless banter of up-sale and trying to point me in a direction I didn't want to go. Jonathan was basically the opposite of my idea of a car salesman. He was extremely patient with me and answered all of my questions about options in a very clear way. He never tried to steer me towards a different type of car or for more than I was after. His patience and non-pushy attitude allowed me to hone in on exactly what I wanted and feel comfortable about it. When I made it clear I wasn't in a hurry he never tried to rush me. Over the coarse of a few days we negotiated prices and options, and he never once was pushy. My experience with them was a simple, clear, direct line of communication, and I found them to be extremely reasonable during negotiating. Because I had such a clear picture of the truck I wanted, we only had to spend a few hours at the dealership test driving one day, and then around an hour closing on the day we decided to bring the truck home. Being in the dealership was a very comfortable, mellow situation, and I found all of the staff to be extremely professional, calm, and friendly. I had expected to be worn down from the experience but found it to be very refreshing and a bit exciting. I got the truck I wanted with no hassle, and felt like I received Jonathan's complete attention without being pushed. I would certainly recommend anyone in the area looking for a Toyota to head down to Gladstone and ask for Jonathan, that is unless you like the stereotypical used car salesman. More
