DECEPTIVE DEALERSHIP - ABSOLUTE WORST! I called Toyota of Santa Monica after seeing a used 2014 Prius listed on Carfax.com. I called the dealership and talked to Matt. - ABSOLUTE WORST! I called Toyota of Santa Monica after seeing a used 2014 Prius listed on Carfax.com. I called the dealership and talked to Matt. I made it clear from the start that the price listed is out of my budget, and I’d only be willing to go in for a test drive if the price is negotiable as I don’t want to waste his time or mine. Matt assured me over and again that they are willing to match or beat other dealerships’ price. I ended up going in for a test drive two hours later and met with Kevin, the sales guy. During the test drive, I explained to him what I told Matt, that I’d only be willing to purchase the car if the price is negotiable since I saw it lower at other dealerships but they were further away. He assured me he understood and would work with me on pricing. He then handed me off to his manager, Hector, and he doesn’t budge at all. I understand if the price is non negotiable, and a dealership has the right to price their cars however they choose. But I just spent an hour at your dealership on a Friday night (of all days) because your minion told me something can definitely be done when you’ve clearly trained him to DECEIVE potential customers. What is your goal is getting me in to the dealership? You just wasted my time and yours AND you didn’t make a sale. Please learn to be mindful and respectful of other people’s time and stop living up to the stereotype of “used car salesmen.” This is precisely why there is such a negative connotation to the “used car salesman” label. Awful dealer!! I love my Prius and prior Toyota cars, but this dealer is the worst. When I went to buy my Prius, they quoted me a terrible price and I therefore bou I love my Prius and prior Toyota cars, but this dealer is the worst. When I went to buy my Prius, they quoted me a terrible price and I therefore bought it at the Manhattan Beach Toyota dealer. Because I live close to Santa Monica, I occasionally take my Prius to the SM dealer for service. The people have generally been nice and accommodating. However, I have had an ongoing problem with my headlights going out every few months, and finally received a recall notice regarding this issue. As my headlights just went out again this week, I called to see if I could bring my car in today to get the headlights fixed. I was told they do NO work related to recall issues on the weekend--only Monday through Friday mornings (the time most people are working). Because I don't get paid time off that doesn't work for me. The SM doesn't give a darn, and they don't care if someone is driving around without headlights for the weekend. I have had much better experiences at the Culver City and Manhattan Beach dealerships. I may have to drive farther, but it's worth it!! More
Total scammer So I was working with Jeff at Santa Monica Toyota, and he quoted me zero down and 477 a month on a new Toyota hybrid Highlander. When I came in to bu So I was working with Jeff at Santa Monica Toyota, and he quoted me zero down and 477 a month on a new Toyota hybrid Highlander. When I came in to buy the SUV he told me that I would be working with Tony. Tony told me that Jeff’s numbers were incorrect and not based on the hybrid. I had asked Jeff to send a picture of the sticker and of the car to verify that his numbers were in line with the hybrid and not a regular Hylander before I came to the dealership. I told him that it’s about an hour drive to Santa Monica and they have the only vehicle that I wanted and his numbers were good. When I arrived Tony said that it would be 2000 down and more than $100 more a month than I was quoted. He tried to throw Jeff under the bus saying he was new there and didn’t know what he was doing… However I talked to Jeff later and Jeff seemed very upset with Tony because he got those numbers from Tony. I clearly stepped into a bait and switch scenario. I ended up getting the same car, fully loaded (SM was all standard) at keys in Van Nuys for 1k down and 530 a month. Buyer beware!! Also, I can’t seem to find my sunglasses after I left the dealership. I’m pretty sure Tony stole them in a ploy to get me to come back to the dealership. Total scammer!!!!! More
