Our experience actually purchasing the car was another experience. The "manager", Rex, used all the sales "tricks" to sweeten the pot to get us to purchase the car—something he didn't need to do. We decided to purchase the car and the price was right for us. They insisted on doing all the 'smoke and mirror" on us. Like telling us they were giving us a lots for our trade-in when we new it was not worth that much. To make it even more of a "sales hook" to buy...they told me they had a university discount for IU faculty. I even signed a university form stating I received a discount. They also hurried to make sure we drove home with our new car that night—9pm. At home I reviewed the sales receipt, there was no "IU discount" listed. It showed the larger than expected trade in amount but no faculty discount. I called and questioned them on this. In my eyes they forgot to give us the discount. In the end...it was revealed to me that "everyone wants to feel they get lots for their trade in" but our car was NOT really worth that..so they subtracted my faculty discount out of the trade in. THey lied to us!! THe sad part is we were ok with getting less for our trade-in. THey didn't need to do that and only caused us to be angry about not being honest on their bill of sale. I'm sure there was an underlying reason why they manipulated the numbers the way they did—meeting sales quotas, bonuses etc. But at the end, it's not rocket science to add up a bill of sales and there was NO IU faculty discount given to me. I met with the owner and discussed the situation...just to get it out our my system. He say he would get back to me. A week later he wrote me an e-mail stating they did noting wrong but they would put a $100 credit on our service bill. They did give us a discount on a sunroof installation and that service was done well. We are ready to purchase another Mazda for our son, we will NOT go back to Tom Roush. They have lost my trust. More
