They added nearly $2000 for ceramic wax coating to the price of the used Mazda we wanted to buy. We didn't ask for the ceramic coating. Added another $500 for some sort of theft protection. They removed those charges after some haggling only to add an additional $1000 to the price of the car because we wanted to use our credit union for financing rather than their financing. For those adding this up, thats an additional $3500 in fees if we didn't question the charges. We couldn't get them to waive the $1000 fee for not wanting to use their financing. We reluctantly decided to buy the car. When calculating the final numbers with Rob in finance, our numbers were off $500. They added $500 for VIN etching which was never discussed or needed. Rob took the VIN etch off the price. I asked for a $200 concession on a damaged right rear rim and Rob informed me he already did enough for me and he has lost money on the deal. Not sure how they lost money when they added $1000 to the price of the car for not financing through them. They added another $3000 for VIN etch, ceramic wax, and theft protection without advertising those charges on Auto Trader. We ultimately walked away from the deal. The actual price of the car was reasonable, but the extra charges for things not needed or asked for just seemed deceitful to me. At the end of the day, I wasn't comfortable working with this dealer...and I almost forgot about their dealer prep fee, just $1299.00! Holy cow! Most other dealers charge $500 or less. Seems like this dealer makes a their money on fees that are not even reasonable. We ultimately purchased a beautiful Mazda for nearly the same price, and it was a certified pre-owned, at another dealer who only charged us for the price of the car with no additional fees except a dealer prep fee of $470. Dont get me wrong, the people at Todd Massarati were nice, but their fees are out of control. Beware of the fees if you are looking at a car at this dealership. You can probably do better elsewhere.
