After many conversations with Todd in service and VW corp. they were as frustrated as I was with how many times I was in for service, the last 3 times for the same problem. Todd was a 10+ on the service end, he did the best he could with the info I was giving him. I need a reliable vehicle I live 42 miles one way to work and 60 miles to the dealership. I was ready to leave VW, I called the salesman who sold me the vehicle which does not work at the VW dealer, he works at another store for Autobarn Countryside. Damien, ask me to give him a week to see if he could do anything for me, Damien doesn't work at the VW store and he went above and beyond the call to keep me with VW. About a week later I received a phone call from Jason, would I be able to come in and talk, I went in on a Friday, talked to Russ on what I was looking for in a vehicle. I went back to VW a week later on a Saturday, with a lot of help from Nick, giving me a generous amount of money on my trade and Jason doing his magic with numbers, I was able to drive home with a 2012 Jetta. There were a lot of people that helped me get out of the Golf, VW Corp. stepped up, Autobarn Countryside stepped up as well, VW credit gave me a extremely attractive interest rate, that a credit union couldn't even match. I'm extremely happy with the deal I was presented with. Thank You Again to, Russ, Jason, Nick with a special thanks to Damien, for going above the call and talking me into staying in the VW family. I wasn’t browsing for a new vehicle but rather knew I was going to buy one. I drove to the dealership (I live in Blue Island), met Anthony Whitlock and told him I was there to buy the Touareg I saw on the website. Anthony said “OK…let’s take a test drive”. I took a test drive and said, “OK Anthony…I want to buy this and here’s what I need to pay for this vehicle to take it home today”. No haggling, no pressure, no “sales pitch” all of which was much appreciated. After a quick credit check and an agreement on the price, I was an official Volkswagen Touareg owner! I spend quite a bit of time researching vehicles before I buy and this was no exception. I returned over and over to the dealership test-driving cars to make sure of my choice. Les had the handicap of the buy and this was no exception. I returned over and over to the dealership test-driving cars to make sure of my choice. Les had the handicap of the less than sterling reliability reputation VW had earned over the last few years, yet he was enthusiastic and upbeat about recent improvements by the company, and Consumer Reports gave the Golf TDI a very good rating, and the GTI, which I really loved driving, a slightly better than average reliability rating. Still, I was coming from Lexus reliability and was wary about VW. Les was unfailingly patient, letting me test-drive the cars multiple times to help me make my decision. Although I adored the handling and look of the GTI, my discomfort about the fuel economy, which was no better than the car I already had, would have tarnished the ownership experience and I ended up with the TDI, with the options and color I wanted. Although I could probably have gotten the car for a better price, had I settled for a color I didn't want, I'm very happy with my purchase so far, with the added benefit of that virtuous feeling that comes with significantly improved fuel economy. I walked into Countryside with the expectation of getting a used car, wanted a diesel and thought I'd have my way with my usual process. Not only was I taken with the Golf TDI, which I have a little crush on still (Only a few weeks old) but was convinced of it's worth after sitting down with Pat Ellis and crunching numbers regarding gas/diesel, yearly depreciation (next to nil in the first few years). I was given thorough information as to what I was getting myself into. It took some time to get the TDI and they looked and found what I wanted. After a week of owning it I was in an accident and VW was responsive, had referrals and helped me move through the time till my car was repaired and road ready.
