Went into the autobarn looking for a specific vechicle, with the help of Eric drew, he made sure I left with the vechicle that I wanted. He was so nice and he really listened to me when I expressed what I with the help of Eric drew, he made sure I left with the vechicle that I wanted. He was so nice and he really listened to me when I expressed what I needed in a vechicle, instead of just rushing me to buy the car. He took his time and he explained things to me. He was very patient and understanding, which made my first cr buying experience pleasant. I'd recommend the autobarn mazda of evanston to everyone. There are some nice people there waiting to help you get into your new car/truck/van, but Eric Drew is my favorite. ask for him. More
I had a very good experience with Dave at Autobarn. We purchased an '09 Mazda6 after negotiating with two other dealers, and Dave handled us very well throughout the experience. He was low pressure, and purchased an '09 Mazda6 after negotiating with two other dealers, and Dave handled us very well throughout the experience. He was low pressure, and allowed us to do our due diligence without heavy handed sales tactics. I would classify him as the type of salesperson most of us want to deal with - professional, business-like and respectful. Believe he also buys most of their inventory, so has the best knowledge of the cars on the lot. The entire process took 2.5 days - we were looking at two other cars at the same time, and after we negotiated the final price, we had the car checked out by a separate mechanic. This seemed fine by Dave. Throughout all, very respectful and timely. We also got a very good rate through the dealership (not a huge fan of the finance person btw. Read the papers you're signing, and the tactic of offering an $1895 bumper to bumper warranty after the final price is confirmed w/o room for negotiation didn't make me smile), but it would have been strange not to have something not feel like a regular dealership. I will have to think more about getting a used car certified in the future because it's only a powertrain warranty, and have not researched how often fixes would be bumper to bumper versus a powertrain. Finance person indicated 90% were b2b; new information for me. The question is really whether you can buy the used car without dealer certification because they seem to roll it into the price. After the papers were signed, Dave drove the car to Chicago for us. Small thing, but it counted, especially after the papers were signed and there was in many dealerships eyes, no need to do this. Recommend the Autobarn even after had read other Yelp reviews with less than positive things to say. It depends on the salesperson, your knowledge of the car you want and your negotiation position. Dave was extremely helpful in getting us the car we wanted, knowledgeable about the inventory and quick to get down to the real work of price. Thank you Dave! More
We just purchased a 2010 Lexus IS350 and could not be more pleased with this dealership. Our salesman, Thijs de Kool, was extremely helpful, courteous and knowledgable. We drove over 300 miles roundtrip to buy this car and we are so hppy that we did. We were treated very fairly on our trade and our new car was detailed to perfection. We financed through them even though we already had prearranged financing through our credit union because the rate was so incredibly low. I would HIGHLY recommend this dealership and Thijs! More
We had a good experience here. Eric Drew, one of the salesman, was super friendly and helpful. Apparently they have a warehouse of cars in addition to what they have on the lot, which means you have a l salesman, was super friendly and helpful. I came in looking for(and bought) a pre-owned Mazda3 in good condition and they had a nice selection, all reasonably priced. More

Patrick Datt, the sales rep, was excellent. Answered every question. Helped get me the best deal possible...and made sure I had the car I really wanted. Don Drescher, Sales Manager, was very congenial every question. Helped get me the best deal possible...and made sure I had the car I really wanted. Don Drescher, Sales Manager, was very congenial and concerned that I was happy. Tony (in the finance office) was most informative and helpful. Explained everything. I enjoyed working with each of them. Most time was spent with Patrick and, like I said, he was very thorough and intent on being sure I was satisfied. More
Over the years I have bought/leased over a dozen new vehicles from a handful of different dealerships. This was far and away the WORST sales experience I had in my entire life. While they told me they vehicles from a handful of different dealerships. This was far and away the WORST sales experience I had in my entire life. While they told me they were interested in "making me a great deal on their remaining 2010 models" they had no intention of doing so. The unit they advertised on-line had misteriously sold just before I arrived. I expected a similar but not as deep a discount on a slighlty less equipped model, but they came nowhere close. By the time we were done "negotiating" my wife was furious and half way back to our car. She praised me for not cursing at them because they certainly deserved it. Stay away! Your sanity is not worth the frustration you will leave with. More
We researched the type of car we wanted and the car buying process for several months before heading out to purchase. We were in an urgent situation because our old car had quit on us a week before (wh buying process for several months before heading out to purchase. We were in an urgent situation because our old car had quit on us a week before (which we were expecting any day). Though the pre-certified used car that we came in to buy was never shown to us, we ended up buying a new car for a price that was very close to the used. Autobarn of Evanston was convenient on the train, and though there were some odd sales tactics used from time to time, they were nothing unexpected or rude - no hard sell at all. We were happy to drive away in our new car, and Eric was very easy to work with, very nice. More
This is one the most high pressure dealerships I have ever been to. Besides not listening to anything I said and coming back with three offers at $2,000 or more over my offer (car with a stick price of $ ever been to. Besides not listening to anything I said and coming back with three offers at $2,000 or more over my offer (car with a stick price of $15k), Patreek claimed that he would perform a soft pull of my credit. Instead they did a hard pull without telling me that they would eventually perform a hard pull. After the first hour, we agreed to a price of $15,000 for a Mazdaspeed 3 (which was already more than I wanted to pay, but I went along to see where we could cut costs elsewhere). Then he came back with monthly figures. I asked for an itemized out the door price. He came back with $20,789! $1995 for the Mazda certification (never mind the point that the car was advertised as having the cert at the $15,995 ad price), $850 for Used Car Inspection, tax, title, etc. All in all, they wanted nearly $21k for a four year old car with 36k miles on it. Give me a break. One and a half hours later and he made it clear that he was not going to sell the car at the advertised price unless I got the $1995 certified warranty. When I asked for pricing without the warranty, he had a price that was only $1000 less, at $19,789. The final straw was when he finally got down to $18,500, but only for a second. The sentence went something like "Can you see the value in $18,500? This can has been inspected and all this (blah blah blah), and at $18,600 this is a good deal. So this is a fair deal, can you see the value in $18,700?" In 30 seconds this guy raised the price $200. I did not buy a vehicle here and I would never recommend buying anything from these jokers. I gave high ratings because I had a terrible experience at a different Mazda dealer. My sister lives in Evanston and I happened to be walking past the dealership. I decided to take my car and have them che at a different Mazda dealer. My sister lives in Evanston and I happened to be walking past the dealership. I decided to take my car and have them check it out. Diane was so nice. She and Carl immediately identified what was wrong with the car. I had two recalls on the car and I set up an appointment to have them repaired. Diane was very helpful. When I came to get my car everything was very smooth. More
