Seemingly-underhanded methods like this are not the way to build a relationship "that will last generations." Most dealers include the cost of prepping a car in the advertised price. This seems sketchy, particularly for a Toyota dealership. We thought we were ready to purchase a used vehicle after a test drive, even though the price was on the higher end of fair according to KBB and it wasn't exactly what we wanted, but close enough. They charge a "standard" additional $1,198 on top of the advertised price. When I add another $1,200 to our price range, there are much better deals elsewhere. The $1,198, when added to the advertised cost of the car, pushes it out of the fair range and into the high-priced range according to KBB. It's a great way to bait someone with one price only to switch it after a test drive. I was hoping to purchase this car after seeing the records of exactly what they did to prep the car to warrant such ridiculous fees the next business day, but I don't appreciate the way they deceive customers with their pricing scheme. Worst car buying experience of my life. I tried to work something out with the dealer before posting these bad reviews, but they went dark on me. I completed a survey that was emailed to me and Edward Akers (General Manager) reached out via email stating "I am sorry to hear your experience with us did not meet your expectations. We value your business and would like the opportunity to resolve this issue." I replied to his email on June 25 and followed up again on June 29, July 4, and lastly July 10. I never received a response back. Here were the issues we experienced: 1. I live 1.5 hours away from this dealer. I knew the exact vehicle and model number I wanted, so when Team Toyota told me they had it, I left work to go get it that same day. I asked for an out-the-door price before heading there, as I did not want to negotiate once I got there. The out-the-door price was emailed over to me. After spending 6 hours at the dealer (see next complaint), they tried to get me to sign paperwork that was higher than the number provided earlier in the day. 2. We arrived at the dealership around 4:30 pm. We didn't leave until after 10:30 pm. It should NOT take 6 hours to buy a car. We didn't test drive the vehicle at all since we knew exactly what we wanted (and the vehicle wasn't ready for us to test drive anyway), and price was already negotiated and finalized. They told us they were understaffed with the financing department. The staff knew that we were coming from far away, and nobody mentioned that waiting and coming the next morning would be a better option. The employees kept telling us that we're next and that it should "only be 30 more minutes" and hours would go by. The lights in the dealership were turned off while we were still in the finance office. All the managers left us there alone with the finance person, so when we discovered the pricing issue mentioned above, they made us feel like it was a big deal because the managers already left and there was nobody to talk to. So they had to call and track down a manager for approval to correct the documents. 3. The car wasn't ready until 10pm or later. The car arrived at their lot that day. Again, I was very clear on the exact car I wanted, and they knew we were coming from far away. They also knew our ETA as I was in constant communication with the salesman. They let us see the car shortly after we arrived to make sure it was what we were expecting, but wheels weren't fully inspected / installed so we couldn't safety test drive or anything. They took the car back to the shop to "finish getting it ready" and they didn't bring it back out to us until 10pm or later. Again, if they had this much work to do on the car before we were allowed to take it, we would have come the next day. Instead, the dealership poorly communicated with us every step of the way, and has done nothing to try and "resolve this issue" to use their words. More
