I went into Volkswagen to look at the possibility of leasing a Jetta. I contacted Mr. Riches and gave him specific information regarding my preferences (i.e., features needed in a car and past driving experiences [a 21-year-old Honda Civic VX]). I was considering three automo regarding my preferences (i.e., features needed in a car and past driving experiences [a 21-year-old Honda Civic VX]). I was considering three automobiles prior to purchase from Suntrup: (a) Honda Civic, (b) Mazda 3, (c) GTi. I had numerous conversations re: the GTi and its features compared to the other two cars. He clearly communicated the distinctions, with emphasis on the service/reliability expectations, which then enabled me to drive all three cars locally (in Bloomington, IL) to compare the features across vehicles. Mr. Riches' astute suggestions and understanding of the product saved me a lot of time in making a decision, and after driving all three vehicles I came to the conclusion that the GTi was the car of choice for me. My wife and I previously had purchased a car from Mr. Riches (a Passat) and were so pleased that I wanted Suntrup to be a dealer consideration in my car-buying process. Mr. Riches' arranged to drive the car to our Bloomington home shortly after purchase, and he provided on-site technical assistance with numerous features. In summary, Mr. Riches was well-informed about the vehicle and its features, and also understood other car models and their respective features; this knowledge was shared with me and led me to make a decision to purchase the GTi. His communications skills were excellent, and I recognized integrity in his efforts to assist me make a decision. I recently relocated to the St. Louis area and did a quick search of Volkswagen dealers around me that would have the new Tiguan R available since my lease was ending on my current Tiguan. I visited another dealership before Suntrup because it was located closer to my home, but received beyond poor service, so decided to drive the extra 15 minutes to Suntrup. I am glad I did. After a brief conversation with Adam via phone confirming that the inventory on their website was up to date I scheduled an appointment for later that day to see the vehicle I wanted. Before I left, I received a video preview of the car from Adam including a personal greeting so I knew who he was before I arrived. Upon arrival, it was a quick discussion of the car, my current situation, and then a review of my current automobile. Adam never pushed us to start the conversation about buying the car, even when I told him that I was going to have to invest in another vehicle since my lease was up in a couple of weeks. After initiating the negotiation, it was a very easy process. We didn't play the four square game like I've done at other dealerships, but we did your usual back and forth. We knew in advance what we wanted to spend and had looked at multiple market values online. Since I planned to lease and the R is a new trim, I didn't anticipate much movement. After settling on an agreeable price for both parties, it was on to finance, some paperwork, loading up random items from the car, and we were all set. The R was not road ready yet, because it came off the truck that day, but Suntrup gave me a nice Passat as a loaner until I could pickup my new Tiguan (only took 2 days to get ready. Would have been 1 day if it weren't for Sunday). If you want a small dealership with friendly staff who aren't pushy and don't need a "fancy" showroom (the waiting area, lobby, and bathroom are a bit outdated and small) than I'd highly recommend Suntrup. If you get lucky enough to get a car just off the truck, be sure you discuss the pin-striping and paint/upholstery protection that comes standard on all their vehicles. I don't care for the pinstripe and I leased the vehicle so I didn't need the protective coating, which allowed me to save a few bucks. Highly recommend this dealership and ask for Adam. More
