Then they refused to adequately make good on their "mistake." THE MISREPRESENTATION: They did not input all of my trade-in car's features when they looked it up on KBB. When they quoted and gave me a much lower value for the "Very Good" condition than what I'd found earlier at home, I questioned it. They insisted their look up was correct and convinced me I had made a mistake, so I let it go. But it kept bothering me over the weekend after I bought the new car, so I revisited the trade-in number on KBB and found I'd been correct. When I brought this proof that theirs had been the faulty look-up they refused to make up the difference. At first, they steadfastly refused to do anything because I had agreed to a contract (even though contracts made based on a mistake or misrepresentation are voidable). Eventually, when my anger escalated, they decided to massage the numbers by taking away the $1,100 I'd negotiated off the new car price and adding it to the trade-in value. The number still missed the mark, so they “gave in” and added a few hundred more to that based on the Good value, but would not bring it to the value I believe is fair. (Sidebar: Their take on the $1,100 is it was always part of the trade in value. I disagree for a number of reasons, two of which: (1) the sales person pointed out what they were giving me as trade in at the end of negotiations. It did not included the $1,100 and (b) the sales person also pointed out when I came back that they were already showing about $1,000 loss on the new car. If they weren't counting that against the new car price, why would there be a loss?) By that point, since they’d rescinded $1,100 of the previously negotiated price reduction on the new car, I was pushing them to use the Very Good KBB condition they’d assigned the car previously (it does not make sense that a car would be Very Good one day and a lower condition the next), plus make good on the 110% of Blue Book on trade in offer presented in the mailing, which brings me to... THE PRETEXT: They sent me a mailing pretending to be a copy of an email from the owner to the sales manager saying he had a buyer for my car. Attached was a "handwritten" post it note from the sales manager asking me to call. The email and post it note are not what they purport to be. My envelope had a California postmark on it and no return address. The post it is pre-printed in a handwriting font. (Sidebar: I was able to spot this because I have a marketing MBA and was a VP of Marketing. I believe the average person would be deceived and believe it's real. I did a Google search and found a 2013 article about this practice in the car industry ... it explained the type of piece I received nearly identically.) THE BOTTOM LINE: I believe they should adhere to one of the two offers they presented, but use the correct Blue Book valuation at the Very Good condition (In other words, the KBB value with the full set of features actually on the car at the condition they assigned to it when I first went in). These are… (1) The negotiated amount: Average KBB at Very Good for the used car and $3,000 in rebates plus an added $1,100 off the new car. What I got falls $1,180 short of this number. OR (2) The amount in the “email:” 110% of average KBB at Very Good for the used car and $3,000 in rebates on the new car. The amount I ended up with falls $1,798 short of this number. In the end, our agreement was resulted in the shortfalls explained above, plus the understanding that ... (a) I was angry about what I see as deceptive advertising and Sunset’s unwillingness to fully adjust numbers based on the corrected Blue Book value, and (b) they do not see it this way and didn't care that I was unhappy. So, when I recently decided to get a new car, I went right back to Sunset Ford. I was greeted by salesperson Janie Green, who immediately impressed me with her sincerity and genuine kindness. She (along with Dave Decker) helped me with all the pros and cons of each car, and I finally decided on a 2014 Fiesta Hatchback. Janie helped me make an excellent deal, and the finance manager, Justin, worked out all the details. I was able to get all the terms I wanted (interest rate, down payment, and monthly payments). Anyway, I absolutely love my beautiful Fiesta. Oh, and I decided to keep my Escort. It still runs, so I saw no reason to get rid of it. Fords are the best, Sunset Ford is the best, and Janie Green is the best! More
If you HATE buying a car THIS is the place you need to be You know the "games & gimmicks" dealers try to play:sign this and give us money down before we tell you what your trade is worth - sorry, we don't hav You know the "games & gimmicks" dealers try to play:sign this and give us money down before we tell you what your trade is worth - sorry, we don't have the car that you saw advertised, how much money do you want to spend - blah, blah, blah. Well, Sunset Ford should use the slogan, "We don't play well with others, as a matter-of-fact, we don't play at all". My elderly uncle wanted to purchase a new Escape. I found the one he wanted online at Sunset-ford.com, printed the window sticker, took my uncle and the window sticker to St. Louis and met Dave Decker and Larry Burchardt. Being a Chevy man my whole life, this was a little out of my comfort zone. We test drove the Escape and my uncle knew this was the one he wanted. When we sat down to get the trade-in value on his Equinox, I was ready to be told to sign a 3 page contract and put cash on the table just to get a trade amount. That didn't happen. We then talked about the final cost of the new Escape. I was ready to play volleyball with the general manger on the best price of the car. That didn't happen. They went straight for the bottom line and offered him every rebate possible. They treated my uncle with respect and made sure all of his questions were answered. No pressure, no hype, no games. I was totally impressed with the whole experience. But I fully expected that my wife would still be driving her Chevy the following week; but that didn't happen. We were SO impressed with Sunset Ford, Dave and Larry, that we came back 4 days later and bought her a 2015 Ford Fusion. I guess I'm no longer a Chevy man - but now a Sunset Ford man. More

I never felt any pressure to make decisions and he was able to answer any question I threw at him. We spoke on the phone in the days leading up to my purchase and he made sure he knew exactly what I wanted and had options ready for me to see and test drive upon my arrival. What could have been a stressful experience was instead a pleasant Saturday morning that ran as smooth as could be. I will be highly recommending Braden Bolerjack to friends and I know I won't be buying anywhere else in the future! Thanks for the fantastic showing of customer service! More
