We strive to keep our customers happy and always disclose the price and ask for authorization before we do the work. As with all industries, work can always be done cheaper yourself. This especially when using aftermarket (non OEM) parts. We believe the benefits of using OEM parts & having the work done by certified technicians (repairs covered by warranties that are honored nation-wide) out weigh any upfront cost savings of aftermarket parts and doing it yourself. This is not what the issue was about and don't care for the deflection of the aftermarket parts. The issue was when I called in and was going to ask for a quote because I had already figured it was the theromstat's, your service writer said, point blank, "it is under warranty so bring it in." Then I have to take my time off work, go through your hassle of not being able to provide a trip back to work, that I had called Sunset ahead of time to set up to only have you call me an hour later and say it isn't covered. Yes I could have just done it myself and next time I will, but since it was already there I would have you do it. Typical bate and switch that you pulled here and more I think about it the more irritated I get. I know its my own dam fault for not just coming to get it but will be buying another $60-$70k truck next year and trust me I will remember this when I go to buy.

Thank you for clarifying the point of your frustration. It was not my intention to side step or deflect to another topic. I apologize that the statement of your truck being covered under warranty is what mislead you to visit the dealership in the first place. We are not in the business of baiting and switching anyone. However, miscommunications occur and can often lead to situations where people feel they were mislead. I can assure you, this was not our intention, and fully apologize for any misleading information given. This is a valuable training moment for our service advisors. There is no way for us to know over the phone if a vehicle's issue can be fixed by a repair that is covered by a warranty - we are only able to confirm that the vehicle, in general, is covered by a warranty. That is why we ask people to bring the vehicle in, so we can diagnose and confirm if the issue can be resolved by a repair that would be covered. We will be discussing with our team the importance of clarifying that important difference to customers in the future. I now understand you were merely asking for a quote, and believed the response meant you were covered for that specific issue. This is where we failed to communicate effectively with you, and I can assure you it will not happen in the future. On behalf of the Sunset Auto Family, I am sorry for any inconvenience this has caused you and do truly hope we have the opportunity to provide you with the type of 5-star experience in the future.
