Hi John, on March 1, 2018, your vehicle was brought in to our service department for smoke and a burning smell from under the hood. The concern was diagnosed as a faulty radiator that lost all its coolant. The system was completely dry. At first look, we recommended a new radiator, thermostat, water pump and radiator cap. You did mention that the water pump and thermostat were replaced on October 7, 2017 and once we confirmed that we removed those items from the diagnoses. Once the system was repaired we bled and pressure tested the cooling system and the system operated as designed, no issues. On March 5, 2018 the vehicle was towed back into our service department. The vehicle had overheated and showed signs of a blown head gasket. As a goodwill gesture we did offer to split the labor cost with you on the current repair which would have saved you about $900.00, on the head gasket repair. In closing, we always do our best to do only what is needed on repairs. We believe the head gasket problem was part of the original concern when we replaced the radiator. The checks and balances didn’t confirm the head gasket issue at that the time, so we determined the vehicle was operating as designed and released it back to you. This was an unforeseen situation which we apologize for. The offer that we discussed with you still stands, please contact our general manager Mike Wasserman, thank you!
