Due diligence Several weeks ago we discovered that the car we purchased from Stokes had been involved in a wreck just prior to our contract. The CarFax was clear, b Several weeks ago we discovered that the car we purchased from Stokes had been involved in a wreck just prior to our contract. The CarFax was clear, but when we brought it to the attention of Stokes they simply said sorry, not our fault nor our problem. We then posted our complaint to their FB page and we got a response.... They publicly offered to buy back our car or trade, so thinking this would be a resolution we went to Stokes. We met with the GM, Andrew and he wanted to appraise the car. We agreed. Well after an hour and a half and four different people they finally made an offer... It was An obscenely low offer. No accounting for the fact we paid a premium price for a wrecked car. They definitely took that into consideration when they made their offer. Apparently this problem is does not even warrant the attention of the GM or the owner, because Andrew quickly handed us off to a salesperson that didn't have a clue as to our issue. We had to go through the entire story again with him. Before it was all said and done our original salesman Butch is the one that made the offer.... No Andrew to be seen.... Butch did explain that lots of the used cars they sell have been involved in accidents before!! Potential buyers beware!!!!!!! CarFax is the only service they use, despite the fact there are other companies that report as well. So remember, not all wrecked cars wind up in the junkyard, they are also fixed and presented as "used". So be like me and buy your next wrecked car at Stokes Used Car Center! Let's recycle and save the environment..... They do.... Certified Preownwd is a joke there. Apparently you should take your mechanic and body shop person with you before you buy from them!!! More

AVOID AT ALL COSTS When you purchase a car, and are told it will be ready in two days, you would think not too bad. When two days passes and they don't call, you call th When you purchase a car, and are told it will be ready in two days, you would think not too bad. When two days passes and they don't call, you call them and they say, oh it will actually be ready the following Monday. Alright, weekend, not an issue. Monday comes and you call them, and they say we'll have your car today. So you drive an hour to get it, and they tell you it will be ready Wednesday. At this point patience is running thin. Wednesday comes they say Friday. Friday comes they say next Monday, Monday came and they said Thursday. Then when you complain to the owner, they tell you "Obviously nothing we do is going to make you happy, so its best if we cancel the sale" As though wanting my car is unreasonable!!! Sleezy, underhanded business practices, and questionable ethics. BEST ADVICE, GO ELSEWHERE More

Used car buying tip of the day: STAY AWAY from Stokes' Used Cars on Robert Smalls Parkway in Beaufort. This was by far the worst buying experience I've ever had - of anything, at anytime. I chose to Used Cars on Robert Smalls Parkway in Beaufort. This was by far the worst buying experience I've ever had - of anything, at anytime. I chose to have a used Prius sent over from Stokes' "sister" dealership in Bluffton. When it arrived, it had rust spots and a curious appearance. The car did NOT instill confidence. So, I declined to buy the car. Before I could even get the words, "...Well, let's see what else comes in this week...." the manager turned his back on me and walked inside, leaving me standing alone in the parking lot. I've seen less petulance from my 16-yr old niece. I went inside to get my deposit back. When the manager saw me standing there, he actually had the temerity to loudly say, "What are YOU still doing here?!?!?" I told him I wanted my $100 deposit back. He told me that since I had given them a check (which, by the way, electronically had already taken funds out of my checking account), that I would have to come back with proof that the check had cleared. Wow, he was visibly angry with me. What an unprofessional. I half-expected my old car to have toilet paper and eggs thrown all over it before I left Stokes'. A month later I brought Stokes my banking statement with the deduction shown and the picture of both the front and back of my $100 check. Nope, not good enough. Long story short, it took me 2 weeks and 3 trips to Stokes' and I still don't have my money. Lemme tell ya - you have to PRACTICE to be THIS rude, THIS incompetent, THIS disrepectful of the customer. Trust me - I know "rude"; I'm from Jersey. I cannot believe that the good people of Beaufort patronize this place. Stokes' has all the social acumen of a union strike. Here is the flip side to a car buying experience. Low Country Motors of Bluffton/ Hilton Head (right on the corner of Route 46 and 287 - next to the Visitor's Center)An oasis of calm, repectful, low key, no pressure, high quality used cars. I went to Low Country Motors on the advice of a friend. When I asked for a late model Prius, they offered to find one for me. They had one the next day. The car was perfect. And do you know WHY the car was perfect? Because these guys have some skin in the game. Low Country BUYS all their inventory - rather than taking whatever crap someone trades in - like Stokes' obviously does. It behooves them to buy the best and to examine their purchase thoroughly before offering it to the consumer. Best of all? When I accidentally overpaid them (it was a cash deal), they called me the next day and asked me to come and get my $1,200 back. They are honest, God fearing, "do the right thing" folks! I would never have known that I'd made an accounting error. And instead of having to enter a WWF "match to the death" over $100 with Stokes' Used Cars, Low Country had the integrity to do the right thing. I LOVE my Prius. And I have the highest praise for the guys at Low Country Motors. They are a paradigm for the way business should be conducted. Do yourself a favor. ENJOY shopping for a used car - go to Low Country Motors and tell them the Jersey Girl sent you. I PROMISE you will not be disappointed. And in the meantime, don't even slow down when you drive past Stokes'. As a matter of fact, give them a rude gesture from me. Signed. KW More
We recently purchased a 2008 Toyota Sienna and we were pleasantly surprised with the staff at Stokes. Rodney helped us with our search and purchase. He was friendly, knowledgable, and patient.
