I went to test drive and ended up driving my Tacoma home. Sean Miller knew everything there was to know not only about my car but about the the history of Hyundai. Very painless buying experience. We paid a $1000 non-refundable deposit in the spring to hold a 2023 Palisade Calligraphy AWD (white, beige). Louie Roth handled everything fine and gave frequent updates. We were led to believe there would hold a 2023 Palisade Calligraphy AWD (white, beige). Louie Roth handled everything fine and gave frequent updates. We were led to believe there would be no mark-ups, but I was skeptical. The car was delivered 8-17-22. We had an approved financing through USAA before going to pick up the car. We made an appointment the day before pickup to be there at 10AM. On pick up day we arrived at 9:30 AM. Louie asked us to wait while he attended to another customer. In the meantime a white palisade was brought up front and we were given keys to check it out. I checked the VIN and realized it was the wrong one so I let Louie know. Someone drove that car to the back to retrieve the right one and prepare it for delivery since it needed inspection. A few minutes later another white palisade was pulled back up front. This was the same one that had just been taken back. It was getting close to 11AM so I let them know again that it was the wrong one. Around that time we began the paperwork process. Everything looked correct with the documents except a $999 addition to the overall price. When I asked Louie he said it was for Resistall NG2 and included a warranty. I pushed back that I didn't want Resistall and wasn't expecting any markups. Louie said he could lower it to $699 but anything beyond that was non-negotiable. Since a paint and leather coverage warranty was included I allowed this to slide, not wanting to delay the purchase and expecting this kind of markup anywhere else. We were then required to wait until 1PM to begin the finance process. We allowed them to run our credit and they came back with a 5.7% interest rate which was well above what qualified for (750+ credit scores). When I countered that we were already approved for USAA at 3.99% they said they would add $1000 to the purchase price if we went with our financing. I told them thanks for their business and got up to leave which prompted her to do some more digging and come back with a 3.97% rate. I'm absolutely sure they could have done better but they beat USAA so whatever. I also had to tell her 5 times that I declined all additional extended warranty, gap, protection, and key packages. She stated they were LEGALLY REQUIRED to get a reason as to why I didn't want to buy the same junk that EVERY DEALERSHIP tries to sell and then asked me why I was starting to sound frustrated and angry. We ended up leaving around 1:45PM, paying $699 over MSRP, and dealing with a new bank. I'm a little disappointed but not terrible considering the market. I think I'm spoiled by the experience I'd had at other dealers such as Lugoff Toyota, Flow VW in North Carolina (Excellent Dealership), and Tesla (BEST in my experience). I don't know that we'll be going back to Stivers in the future. I know every dealer has markups, but waiting until I'm in your showroom to inform me of them is poor business model. P.s. - On the Resistall Package, I'm not sure how they were able to apply it in the 15 minutes they took to inspect it, because we requested that all the plastic be left on the leather seats and interior panels. The exterior also has grease and tar marks so nothing was applied to the paint. We were told point blank that it was applied while we were waiting, but I'm not sure how they would manage that. The Resistall is a mark-up, cut and dry, and I'm sure it'll be a nightmare if we ever need to make a claim. More
