I recently used TrueCar's service to help me get a 2022 Honda Odyssey in either the EX-L or the Touring trim. One of the dealerships that TrueCar connected me with was Spreen Honda in Corona, California After receiving my personal data from TrueCar, this particular dealership quickly sent me an email with a TrueCar quote on a 2022 Honda Odyssey in Touring trim, along with a follow up email regarding coming into the dealership to finalize the deal. Before I headed out to Spreen Honda Corona, I confirmed with Berenice Marquez, the customer care representative from Spreen Honda Corona that the car quoted in the quote is in fact in stock. I was informed that that car is still in transit to the dealership, and will be available if I agree with the price. Upon arrival at the dealership, I was greeted by a different sales/product specialist named Hector. However, when I asked to speak with Ms Berenice Marquez directly regarding the quote I received, I was told that all sales transactions/negotiation will be handled by the product specialist at the dealership. Upon presenting the printout of the quote from Berenice and TrueCar, I was informed that I will have to pay a dealer markup for the car, and they will not honor the quote that I was presented by TrueCar and their own online customer representative. The total cost for the car all of a sudden went from $42,513.50 (TrueCar price + Dealer add-ons as printed on the certificate) to $51,000. When asked to honor the price quoted in the quote from TrueCar, the sales representative simply said that the price quoted was too low and they can not honor it. So at the end of the day, I left the dealership in disgust. So here is something that I'd like to ask 1) How is it ethical/okay for a car dealership to such tactic to get a customer's information and present him/her with a fake quote to lure the unwary customer into the dealership and ask to pay a huge markup to get the exact car presented in the original quote? 2) It is illegal for a in California for a licensed car dealer to charge for more than the advertised price on the exact car per CVC 11713.1 e) Please see the direct exert from the California Vehicle Code below for reference. How is this place able to get away with this? "Fail to sell a vehicle to a person at the advertised total price, exclusive of taxes, vehicle registration fees, the California tire fee, the fee charged by the state for the issuance of a certificate of compliance or noncompliance pursuant to a statute, finance charges, mobilehome escrow fees, the amount of a city, county, or city and county imposed fee or tax for a mobilehome, a dealer document processing charge, an electronic registration or transfer charge, and a charge for emission testing not to exceed fifty dollars ($50) plus the actual fees charged for certificates pursuant to Section 44060 of the Health and Safety Code , while the vehicle remains unsold, unless the advertisement states the advertised total price is good only for a specified time and the time has elapsed.  Advertised vehicles shall be sold at or below the advertised total price, with statutorily permitted exclusions, regardless of whether the purchaser has knowledge of the advertised total price." I normally go to Travis, but he was on a MLOA. I will only have my car serviced there if Travis is there, also I had my car was, which the person who washed made it look worst. I had to go home and rewash it. I will never have my car serviced there unless Travis is there. Everrrrrr More
