This week, I went in to purchase a vehicle. The first day I went in, I was shown the honda civic touring 2022 and given the price. The price was $7000 over MSRP. What this dealership does is add a ton of accessories to vehicles so it doesn’t seem like there is a huge mark up. When talking to the sales person, I told them that I can’t see myself paying such a huge markup even with all the accessories included that I didn’t want in the first place. I was told time and time again that the accessories can not be removed. As for the accessories included, one of the “accessories” is a protection pack that includes all season floor mats, a trunk tray, and splash guards. This protection pack is roughly $1500! The dealership claims that other dealerships don’t have any accessories at all and just have a base markup. But seriously? That protection pack is definitely overpriced. With that being said, I was able to get the price down to a more reasonable amount, but i still felt like it was too expensive. Since I am a first time buyer, I did not want to stay and just purchase any vehicle without looking around, as many other dealerships were including different accessories. If I’m going to pay a huge markup, i want it to be for the best accessories that suit my needs. After looking around and getting calls and quotes from other dealers, I went back to Spreen Honda Corona as I was ready to purchase the vehicle because I felt they had the best accessory pack. I told the finance guy Greg the price that I was given the day before and he went to verify. Once verified, he came back and continued with the paperwork. The paperwork went fine, until we got to the point that showed me which accessories are included. The protection pack that was supposedly mandatory to purchase the car was taken off the deal! I demanded to have the protection pack added and Greg in finance claimed that since they gave me a discount, they had to cut out accessories somewhere. I was never told this when originally quoted since they kept insisting that accessories were mandatory and cannot be removed. Reluctantly, Greg went to speak to a sales manager and came back saying that they will add the pack back in. He reprinted the paperwork, and when I looked over it, he only added the floor mats! I told him that this was not the whole protection pack promised with the vehicle and he claimed that every dealership does it differently. I told him to show me what’s included in the protection pack and when he did, it showed that it included the mats, trunk tray, and splash guards! Again, he goes to speak with the sales manager and comes back telling me that they will add it on. At this point, I’m not enjoying my time. Scheme after scheme, I was told that to get the price that I wanted on the vehicle they have to add third party coverage named portfolio protection (funny name because this 3rd party warranty is only tacked on to protect their portfolio). The trunk tray and floor mats had to be placed into the vehicle and the splash guards could not be added yet as I had to make a service appointment. Now when I get home, even though all the paperwork claimed that all of my accessories were installed, i noticed that the door edge guards were missing. Further looking into my paperwork, i found one paper that claimed that I was asked whether or not i wanted to install a front plate bracket and that i said yes. I was never asked this, but I realized that I could use this to get the front plate bracket installed, which is something I definitely wanted. Also, in the third party warranty contract, It states that the protection can be cancelled within 30 days for a full refund. The next day, which was 12/16/21, i speak to a guy in service and show him all the accessories that are missing from my car including the front plate bracket. They tell me that they will be able to do all of that only if it’s approved by sales. The sales manager did approve this which is great, since it was what I was promised and I had written proof as well. I also asked the sales manager about cancelling the protection as stated in the contract and he told me that someone in finance can help me. When i was helped by the guy in finance, he told me that only Greg, the one who sold me the vehicle can cancel the portfolio protection. Of course, at this time, Greg was off. I asked for his hours and mentioned to him that I’d be interested in electronic protection for my vehicle and he tried to sell me another plan to replace portfolio protection. How is it that they can modify the third party protectio I am receiving but not outright cancel it as stated in our contract terms!!! He did state that i wouldn’t be given a direct refund but that it would be taken out of the principal of my loan which i am completely fine with. I am going back Saturday to get the last of my “accessories” installed and I hope that I don’t have to deal with anymore schemes when trying to cancel this third party warranty that I’m supposed to be able to cancel within 30 days, as written in the signed contract. On another note, they refuse to add the $500 graduation bonus, claiming that i need to give them an official transcript? Ridiculous. More
