Southland Dodge was opened in July 1968 by Joe Teuton Jr., Jeff Teuton, and Dennis Oncale. Joe and Dennis were experienced auto technicians at Downtown Auto Service on Lafayette St, and Jeff was a college graduate in Business Administration from Southeastern Louisiana University. They were also avid drag racers, and they were all under 30 years of age. The first location at 505 Sunset Ave featured a one-car showroom and a 10 car parking lot. Their racing background helped them to sell lots of Dodge Superbees, Chargers, and Challengers in the early years.

I went in for an oil change. They caused my deployable running boards to quit working. Service manager tried to tell me it had nothing to do with the oil change and acted like it They caused my deployable running boards to quit working. Service manager tried to tell me it had nothing to do with the oil change and acted like it was going to be my problem. I insisted that they were working when I drove in there and that they did something to cause them not to work. Turns out they unplugged the running boards in connection with "potting" the computer in the truck. Then acted like it wasn't really their fault, it seemed to be working now, but not really sure what happened and good luck. The people were nice - especially the lady who wrote up the ticket when I arrived. I just couldn't believe the service manager acting like "hey - it was just an oil change and it was nothing we did". When in fact it was directly related to unplugging the electrical connection in the process of reading the on board computer. More
