Deceitful sales/financing scam. I was pre-approved! I've purchased 6 cars in the past five years, flying or driving as far as Phoenix, Lake Havasu, Az. or the L.A. area from San Francisco because the mo I've purchased 6 cars in the past five years, flying or driving as far as Phoenix, Lake Havasu, Az. or the L.A. area from San Francisco because the models I sought were literally $2k-4k cheaper than comparable vehicles at home. Apparently, I like a good deal as well as an adventure! Found a Certified 2015 Mazda Miata at South Bay Mazda that was priced well, contacted the internet sales manager Peter Young with my deposit, informed him I was pre-approved through my bank, sent all requested paperwork and documents that afternoon via email and text message and flew down the next morning to complete the purchase and drive off. Easy, right? With Sales Manager "Caddy" Munteanu entering mis-information, they improperly came back with my bank approving an interest rate of 8.8% when I had already presented them the email stating I was pre-approved at 5.7%. "But they could get me financing through B of A at 6.2%" (I'd already told them I was going through my own bank, and that I didn't want 6-8 hard inquiries on my credit report as this had sent my credit score plummeting in the past.) Upon calling my bank to see what had happened, apparently the dealership's sales manager may have "accidentally" listed my down payment as ZERO and "inadvertently" listed the dealer doc fees as $1,500 (where they're normally $80). I give everyone the benefit of the doubt the first time. Bad morning, sleepy, hungry, not on their game, whatever. We've all been there. Let's do this again. Second time, came back with a payment $65/month higher than I'd calculated since they were including a warranty I didn't ask for. "No, thank you. No warranty, nothing extra. I agreed to your asking price because it was fair and I'm not trying to beat anyone up. Let's get this deal done, I have a 375-mile drive back home." Third time, came back with a payment $25/month higher than I'd calculated as they had added gap insurance. "No, thank you." Fourth time, came back and asked me to agree to a payment $15/month higher than I'd calculated. What the xxxx is going on here? Called my bank back and had them check the most recent contract the dealership submitted to them. This time, they had mysteriously added $500 to the agreed upon purchase price (THEIR ASKING PRICE....remember, I was agreeable to that as it was fair) plus an additional $133 in fees, causing that monthly payment to be incorrect again. Wow. To top it all off, and it's insignificant at this point but it punctuates the morning, the car which was taken "to be filled with fuel and washed for me" was delivered unwashed. And some individual, who never introduced himself, offered his hand an an apology outside. Hard to imagine it was very sincere. And, who was he? Still not sure, but he looked a lot like the individual responding and apologizing to other yelpers in their comments and complaints, below. This all occurred right after I was given SOMEONE ELSE'S CREDIT INFORMATION and asked to sign that credit disclosure statement. "Um, this isn't mine, perhaps that individual doesn't want me to have their credit info?" This should've been a quick, easy vehicle sales transaction. I get that sales tactics are designed to be intimidating and to wear the customer down. I get that dealerships try to make money selling loans from banks other than yours. I get that it's their business to attempt to get you to buy extended warranties and other add-ons. It's shameful, however, when an attempt to do so involves deceit, bait-and-switch, and other underhanded maneuvers. Lots of luck with that methodology of treating your customers. Buyer beware, double-check everything! More

As anyone else in Southern California getting around this area can be tough. We were introduced by our Pastor to Jeff Donnell, the General Manager of South Bay Mazda. He truly made the experience pleasant and most importantly affordable. My wife loves our brand new 2016 CX5. Thank you to everyone at South Bay Mazda and particularly our salesman Ibey Goodwin for helping us get one less worry out of the way. More
