Find another dealer On 4/27/2020 I purchased a 2011 Chevy Silverado 2500 from Hometown Motors in Weiser. Here is my very negative experience: During the test On 4/27/2020 I purchased a 2011 Chevy Silverado 2500 from Hometown Motors in Weiser. Here is my very negative experience: During the test drive I noticed that the check engine light was on. I was assured that the truck had been through the shop, everything had been gone through, and that there was nothing wrong with it. I was told that the light just needed reset and it was fine. Partially my fault for believing him and not getting it checked first. We took it home and reset the light, which only worked until the truck was started again. I got a hold of the salesman who said he would take care of it and then proceeded to brush me off for days, repeatedly telling me he was on his way to get it taken care of and then not responding. During the time I was waiting to get into the shop for the light, the left rear tire began making a weird noise. Upon further inspection we found that the brake caliper bolt had backed itself out and the caliper was falling off. First thing Monday morning I was down at the shop demanding it be fixed, as I couldn't drive it that way. When I went to pick it up I was informed that it was not just one bolt that was loose, but all four tires had loose caliper bolts. Also, they replaced two bad glow plugs, which had been the cause of the engine light. All of these issues on a truck that had supposedly been gone through in their shop and I had owned less than a week. Another issue we had is tires. During the sale, we discussed getting new tires with the salesman and finance guy as the ones that were on it were not in great shape. We were told that was totally possible, though there was a chance we might have to pay a small amount, and given a work order that stated 1st call on takeoffs (they never called). Last Monday I took the order down to the shop and they had a set of take offs that would fit. I was told they would get it taken care of and scheduled an appointment for today, 9 days later. No one said anything about payment and no one called me any of the multiple days in between taking the work order in and my appointment. I showed up for my appointment at 10:30 and signed an RO with a 0 balance. After sitting in the waiting room for about 15 minutes, I received a call and subsequent voicemail. It was the gentleman from the finance dept letting me know that they hadn't forgot about me and that they were working on finding tires and coming up with a price point. I thought this was pretty strange as I was already there. A few minutes later he comes and finds me and explains there is confusion about who was going to pay for the tires. After a bunch of back and forth and him leaving to talk to the sales manager, he lets me know that they will give me the tires for the low price of $850 + tax + mount and balance. For a set of lower end factory take offs from another truck. Now, I would have had no problem paying the small amount they told me I may have to pay. I was fully expecting a call all week letting me know how much it was going to cost. But they way they conduct business is absolutely asinine. I told them to keep their tires and I would never step foot in their shop again. I'd advise everyone to find a better dealer. Their high turnover rate apparently lends to horrible communication and ineffective customer service. Also, you should probably take any used vehicle you buy to another shop to make sure they didn't overlook something that could potentially kill your family. More

I will never buy anything from them again. Be very careful. Their advertised prices are the best around, but that price is not what you'll get. They tried everything possible including outright lying. They also became unavailable when we questioned them. More

If I could rate in the negatives I would. Have never been treated with such deceit. I live 7.5 hours away. We came to an agreement and I let them know I would be up early the following evening. Half way to t treated with such deceit. I live 7.5 hours away. We came to an agreement and I let them know I would be up early the following evening. Half way to the dealership I called about half way to the dealership to inform of my arrival time and to make sure we could expedite the transaction. Thomas informed me that he could not honor the deal and the best he could do was around $6000.00 more than what we agreed to. Totally amazed that they did not have the integrity to at least send a text and was obvious that the whole transaction was nothing more than a scam. Absolutely no concern that I had to drive that far. Waste time, gas, paying a dog sitter, and getting a hotel room that i can’t get reimbursed for due to the cancellation policy. Only wanted to post this as a warning and be aware of their deceitful sales practices. Oh. And they offered to reimburse me for the cost of my dog sitter fee More

I went back and forth during the day with Vincent via email and text. We were told the truck was in detail and to come on in, which we did. I texted Vince and let him know when we would be there. With us living in Star, it took us an hour to get to the dealer. Once we did, we were told that it wasn't in detail, it was getting a NEW ENGINE and we couldn't even look at it. We walked the lot waiting for help for 20 minutes. Finally getting help, they took us around to show us trucks that we weren't interested in. At that time, I was frustrated and in tears. They offered us gas money, which we turned down. I left the dealer crying and wondering why we were treated the way we were. Thank you for showing us what a "hometown dealer" is really like. More
My Experience with Steve’s Hometown Motors of Weiser, ID. I came preapproved in Alaska to buy a vehicle in Idaho. I found a nice pretty blue f150 for $31,999. I had a friend go check it out, it was a great rig, everything I wanted and everything as advertised. So I haggled with the salesman, Thomas Mayes. He tried the runaround with the sales manager but they had just dropped the price 2k last week. So OK fair enough I want the truck. I proceed to have all the necessary paperwork sent over so I can get the ball rolling and get the truck financed through MY bank, a bank I have had nothing but great success using. I sign the purchase agreement which states I need to have the vehicle paid off by July 7th. It took over a week for the dealership to send all the required information, every bit of information was like pulling a full bony impacted wisdom tooth (I should know, I’m a dentist). The general manager, Brent Bradshaw, was very rude to myself and my loan/title specialists. I am getting kick back and pressure from all involved with sales. They tell me consistently that I should use their inhouse lending services to buy the truck. I don’t want to. I live in Alaska, my bank is in Alaska. Finally I get in touch with Lindsey, the Car Booker, She is great, very nice and informative. It seems she knows how to do her job. She gets the title signed into Hometown Motors name so my bank can roll a check off. I am in the middle to talking with Lindsey and my salesman, Thomas Mayes interrupts to tell me “…bad news on your truck, we have to put it back up for sale because your bank has been terrible and it has been a week.”. I REMIND him of the purchase agreement that states I need to have it paid off by July 7th, he backpaddles and comes up with the lame excuse, “Well you haven’t paid us yet.” Thomas M. then proceeds to tell me that they can get me going if I go through their lenders. I refused, I want my lender on my terms. I had had it at that point, however, the truck was still available and I was making the headway to get the loan finalized with Lindsey. I demanded to continue my conversation with Lindsey, she proceeds to provide all necessary information. All is good, all is set, my bank calls me in to sign the loan documents. I was literally about the run out the door when Thomas calls. I quote from his text message, “That truck just sold I’m sorry bud it was out of my hands.” So I proceed to call the general manager, to make certain he was not confused, since my bank was about the pull the trigger on this deal. Overall, this has been the WORST car buying (not really since I have no car from them) experience I have EVER had. I have a lot of family in Idaho and in Weiser. EVERYONE will hear about my experience. My sister was just in to look at a vehicle there. I guarantee they will not buy a vehicle there. Because of the HORRIBLE customer service, this dealer has lost out on thousands in sales. The trade in on the truck was 24K, they were selling it to me for 32K. That’s a loss. Granted, the little dent I make in anything will not sink the ship. I feel a person ought to be VERY leery in doing any business with this company. I will be happy to take my business elsewhere, as will my extended family. Some of the folks there are nice, but a few good apples in the barrel do not sweeten the cider. I feel terrible for the good people who do work there, it has potential to be a great dealership. Respectfully, Nate More
Very Frustrating On April 2 I clicked on an ad online at AutoTrader. I then received a call later that day from Kay Kofoed from Steve's Hometown Motors in Weiser, ID. On April 2 I clicked on an ad online at AutoTrader. I then received a call later that day from Kay Kofoed from Steve's Hometown Motors in Weiser, ID. We talked about a Ram 4 door truck and the price. With my past dealings with other dealerships I was aware of the questionable tactic where dealerships put every possible/available incentive on a truck and list it online for a low price. We discussed the price and it was understood that the price listed in the add at $31,450 would not be obtainable due to the fact that I did not have a trade-in vehicle. So I clarified with Kay that the price would be $32,450 and that I was not willing to drive the 7+ hours up to Weiser if the price went up. Kay said $32,450 would be the price. I agreed to drive up the next day On April 3 I drove to Hometown Motors in Weiser, ID. I met Kay in the dealership and immediately walked out the front door where the truck I was interested in was washed and waiting for me. I wasn't shown any other trucks nor did I look at any others, as the truck I was interested in was the one that was waiting at the front doors for me. We took the truck for a test drive, came back and started working up the paperwork for purchase. After about an hour and a half to two hours the paperwork was finally ready to be signed. I signed the paper work they prepared for me, paid my down payment, Kay walked me through the purchase check off and they handed me the keys, congratulated me on the purchase of my new truck and then I drove back to Utah. That was all the contact that I had with the dealership and I was waiting for the paperwork and truck information that they were supposed to send to the Utah DMV for my registration. Then about April 25 I received a call from Kay Kofoed stating that the paperwork that I had been given listed the wrong VIN. I then checked the paperwork they had gaven me and compared VINs with the Truck and found that they were different. That the only paperwork that had the correct VIN on it was the feature and information check off that Kay had given me. Kay said someone would be contacting me and sending out the fixed contract. Then on April 26, I received an Email from Mike Taylor saying that they were reprinting the new contract and that they were going to FedEx the documents to me. I called Mike to make sure everything would be the same on the contract and that everything would be the same. Mike said it would but that their Finance Dept was the ones who printed it up. A few hours later I received an email stating that there was a price difference in the trucks of $3,160 and that my options were to either pay the difference or accept delivery of the truck that was on the paperwork and had the wrong VIN. I immediately tried to call Mike and was told he was unavailable but would be given a message to call me back. I tried to call again on April 27 and was never called back. I then penned an email on the night of the 27th stating that I wanted the corrected paperwork with the corrected VIN sent to me and referenced the section of the paperwork talking about errors. I then heard nothing from Hometown motors until April 30th when I received another email from Mike Taylor saying that the truck that I had was not the one I was under contract for and that in no uncertain terms that they would have a delivery person reach out to schedule delivery of the truck who's VIN they accidently put on my paperwork. I then sat down to compose another email knowing that they would not talk to me over the phone or call me back. While I was doing this my Fiancée found Hometown Motors Facebook page and posted a scathing review. Within 20 minutes of her posting the negative review a Brent Bradshaw called me and identified himself as the GM of Hometown Motors. Brent told me again that there was a $3,160 difference between the two trucks and asked me what I wanted to do. I said I wanted the contract that I signed to be honored with the correct VIN number placed on it. He said that the money had to be made up somewhere and that he'd have to take the money out of Kay's pay and that a mistake along these lines may be cause for employee termination. I said I didn't want that but that I didn't think it was fair that I had to pay for their mistake. He said that the best he could do would be take $2000 of the price but that I would have to pay the remaining $1160. I said no and that I had been in contact with a lawyer and was prepared to go down that path if need be. Brent said that would be a bad idea, due to having to pay lawyers fees and what not and that when all was said and done I would pay more then the $3000 dollars needed to make up the difference and that they also had lawyers. Brent also took this time to point out that " I had some skin in the game too," that it was my responsibility to check the VIN before leaving. Brent then asked me what I wanted to do I said I either wanted the contract with the corrected VIN on it honored. Or they could come pick the truck up from me with the canceled contract and a cashiers check refunding my down payment. The conversation then just sort of ended with nothing decided. About 20-30 minutes later Mike Taylor called me and said they would honor the contract and they would FedEx me the new contract. He then asked me to take down the negative review on Facebook. I said I would when everything was complete (her review is still posted as we are still waiting for all issues to be resolved) I received the new paperwork, I signed everywhere that they indicated and FedExed them back to them on May 3rd, Per the tracking they recieved it May 6th I thought everything was going to be taken care of.... But I started checking my Chrysler Capital statement and saw that my name and account were still listed under the incorrect VIN number and that they were requiring a payment on May 17. I called and talked to Chrysler Capital. They recommended that I call the Dealership and get them to take care of the issue or fix the problem. I called Mike Taylor on May 13th and explain what was going on he said he would contact someone to resolve the issue and that he would have them call me to confirm. I never received a call back and once again I called multiple times on Wed May 15th with a receptionist saying Mike was unavailable and that she would leave a message to have him call me. I then called on Thursday the 16th and was directed to a Voicemail where I tried to convey what Chrysler Capital was recommending I do and that I wanted someone to call me back... Chrysler Capital recommended a few things... Which was to start an investigation on their end which I have done, file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau- done, file a complaint with the Office of the Attorney General under Consumer Complaints and file a formal complaint with the Local Dealer Board/ Idaho DMV Investagations which I have also done As of today I still have never been called or called back, there are multiple investigations going just to get this issue resolved to the point where I can make a payment on the correct truck. I am still being told by Chrysler Capital that the dealership is the one that needs to resolve the issue through their channels and that that's where the delay is....... More
