Sooooo bad. In August my oil light came on briefly, so I checked the oil and noticed it was a couple quarts low. I added oil and immediately scheduled an appoint In August my oil light came on briefly, so I checked the oil and noticed it was a couple quarts low. I added oil and immediately scheduled an appointment with Skyline. They did an evaluation and said that I had a leak in the oil pan and needed to replace the gasket, so I did for around 600 dollars. Fast forward to December, my car started running really rough, so again I scheduled an appointment with Skyline, they did an analysis and told me the engine was blown and said it would need to be rebuilt or replaced. When I asked for the cause they skirted around the answer and would only say the timing chain slipped at 7k RPM's. I went ahead with the engine rebuild. This took approximately 6 weeks, it wasn't until after a month of excuses that they offered me a loaner, so I endured the rental car fees on my own up to that point. When I finally got the car back they said that the turbo was showing ware and recommended that I replace it. I decided to just upgrade the turbo and wanted to do that at a performance shop with a Dyno so I could get it appropriately turned afterwards. When the performance shop was tuning the engine they called me to inform me that the engine was in really bad shape and they didn't want to push it on the Dyno because it was a "ticking time bomb". At this point I went back to Skyline to discuss options, their service manager Clyde told me how he has been rebuilding engine for longer than I've been alive and that there was nothing wrong with the engine. I had the performance shop document the issues and the results of the tests they ran on the engine and e-mailed this over to Clyde. I received no response. I went into the shop and asked to speak with Clyde and was told he was busy with other customers, I tried calling but still got no where. Then I filed a complaint with the better business bureau and that ended up being closed with no response from Skyline. So now I'm out around 10k all because I trusted Skyline. Here is a copy of e-mail I received from the performance shop: - The engine is currently making a ticking noise from the top end of the engine which is most likely valve train related. The camshaft clearances are within spec however a broken valve spring might be the cause of the ticking noise. We would need to tear down to inspect. - Rod bearing #4 was spun and transferred material to the crankshaft. Crankshaft was “polished” to OEM specs, this cannot be done if material transferred from bearings to crankshaft. - If bearing material was found in oil and rod bearings have spun than why was the oil cooler not replaced? - If cylinder block was “honed” how could you re-use three pistons, they would be out of OEM spec if that was the case. - Were new main cap bolts used? Those are torque to yield one time use bolts only! - Three connecting rods were re-used, did they use new rod bolts with them? Were they checked? Rod Bolts are the most important bolt inside any engine! - Oil pan looks like it was used as a punching bag, it is bent out of shape in so many ways that is could cause oil starvation for the oil pump pickup! This should have been replaced! - The engine is very low on power after a new turbo has been installed, Cylinder leak down numbers indicate that poor ring gap, poor cylinder honing and improper break-in procedure might be the case. - Cylinder leak down as followed, #1 = 25%, #2 = 25%, #3 = 40%, #4 = 37%. Typical leak down should be no more than 10%. We usually see 10-15% on higher mileage engines. ****The whole reason why this engine failed is because the TURBOCHARGER was burning oil from being worn out! Not the Engine burning oil! The Intercooler & Intercooler pipes were FULL of oil, they should have been cleaned out when the engine was rebuilt AND the recommendation to replace the turbocharger should have been made otherwise this was just going to happen again!!!****" note I had edit this down due to the character limit for reviews. There were more issues listed than shown above. More
