After checking several dealerships and websites I checked Simpson Chevrolet. I met with Matthew, a young man, who was very helpful and most importantly, not pushy. I negotiated with Alex and Christian who Simpson Chevrolet. I met with Matthew, a young man, who was very helpful and most importantly, not pushy. The purchase of my suburban and the sales process with Alex was great. Alex was upfront and straightforward as all salespeople should be. The problem was dealing with the finance representative, James Gil Alex was great. Alex was upfront and straightforward as all salespeople should be. The problem was dealing with the finance representative, James Gillette. The deceptive tactics to add on a service contract during the sale by falsely representing that the price of my vehicle would be lowered are reprehensible. After reviewing the contract and seeing the $3,000 that James tried to sneak in to the deal, my wife and I requested not to have anything added and James said he would remove it. Even after doing so, James told us he was going to give us two “free” oil changes because we were “good” people. I was hesitant to accept the offer because as we all know, nothing in business is “free” but James insisted the services were completely free and would be performed at Simpson Chevrolet in Irvine. James added on a Century Maintenance agreement for the “free” oil changes and I questioned him why the agreement showed a cost of $749. James said that was not a cost to me and that the $749 was what the agreement would cover for the cost of maintenance. After getting home and reading through the agreement, it was absolutely clear that this agreement was sold to me at a cost of $749. No where did it state that $749 was the payout for services. The agreement however did have a clause for cancellation as long as the cancellation request was made in writing. I went to the dealer the following business day and submitted my written request for the cancellation of the agreement and requested a refund of my $749. James took my signed, written letter and said he would work on canceling the agreement and process the refund. Well, it has been almost one month since this happened and there has been no cancellation or refund. I had reached out to James and he replied saying he was going through the necessary steps to get this cancelled and refunded, but he never followed up. I called century and was informed the dealership submitted the service agreement and it showed it being active. They had no information from the dealership regarding the cancellation. I now have to deal with this with Century myself, meanwhile my auto account is accumulating interest on the $749 now that we are one month into this nonsense. The sleazy sales tactics and false statements made by James are examples of what gives honest salespeople bad reputations. I hope your dealership discourages these fraudulent tactics used by those who are trying to sneak in a sale of added products all in the name of making a measly commission. I would highly encourage that dealerships audio and video record contract signings between finance reps and clients so that these types of tactics or misinterpretations can be avoided. More
