We decided to get another minivan, just to occasionally haul grandkids. Our old one just wasn't worth fixing. The Facebook ad said $9750, big black letters, nothing else. The "Show Me Auto Mall" i haul grandkids. Our old one just wasn't worth fixing. The Facebook ad said $9750, big black letters, nothing else. The "Show Me Auto Mall" in Harrison Mo is about a half hour south of our kid's place. We had planned ahead, and before a visit, went by our bank and got $10k in fresh bills. Saturday afternoon we excused ourselves from the kids for a bit, expecting to drive two vehicles back. When we got there, the salesman (like in many lots), was at our truck before we emerged, directing me in backing into the space, although I didn't ask or need help. Nice enough fellow. We had parked next to the van. He asked if the miles were too high, I told him that if the price was right, it would be fine. He told me that the "Internet price" was what they'd sell it for, there was no negotiation. Fair enough. Then he looked at a paper on the window, and mentioned casually that there was a charge of something around $997 (if memory serves) for "things like nitrogen in the tires, and some other stuff". 10% more than the "Internet price" for nitrogen and stuff. Ok. I thought about suggesting that they could have their nitrogen back, but I figured the other "stuff" could be oil, tires, pistons, hard to say what. I smiled and said "we're done". As I got back in my truck, he said "there's also another $1000 charge if you bring your own financing or pay cash". I asked why none of this was simply in the advertised price, he informed me all of this information was in the "additional details" button. When I got back, I looked at the Facebook ad again, and couldn't find such a button, but perhaps I'm somehow missing it. I'm not, but hey, I've made mistakes. I told him that I considered their methods dishonest, and his reply was the classic one, "I don't make the rules". It seemed important to him that I understand that all of this was OK. I was actually grateful to have gotten away with an hour and some gas wasted, feeling this was preferable to honest price advertising, and integrity failures showing up a few hundred miles down the road with undisclosed mechanical issues. The assured me it would be detailed, some damage fixed and it good working condition so I put a deposit down on it. After about 4 days they called and said the body work was done but the door was sticking and the need to be fixed, no big deal. I called back 2 days later and they said it needed a new head light to pass inspection and it would take 4 days to get in, fine. They finally called to tell me it was ready and we went to take delivery. They shoved paperwork at me to sign before we even went out to look at the car again, which I did not sign. Looking at the vehicle it was clean, the body damage was fixed but the plastic piece around the head light had not, the passenger door still stuck and missing the door lock, it had a flat tire and was out of gas, same as when I initially drove it. Who delivers a car in this condition!! I don't think anyone from the dealership ever even drove the car off the lot, let a lone gave it a mechanical inspection! We left in agreement that the would fix the issues. Two days later they called and said they could not address all of those issues for the price we had agreed on for car. Unbelievable!!! Everyone pointed fingers at someone else...this dealer is completely incompetent! More

Worst Car Buying Experience of My Life Where do I begin with all of the horrible and down right shady things this dealership did when I purchased a vehicle from them? To give some context, Where do I begin with all of the horrible and down right shady things this dealership did when I purchased a vehicle from them? To give some context, I've purchased 3 different vehicles in my lifetime (which may not be a lot), not including from Show Me Automall in Harrisonville, MO and purchasing from Show Me was by far the worst car purchasing experience I have ever undergone. Initially everything was very cordial and they were pleasant to deal with. I was in the market for a full-size pick up truck and I saw one they had listed on Autorader.com. I called their dealership up and spoke with a pleasant woman about that particular truck. She insisted on setting up an appoint for me to look at it. I live 4 hours away, so I set up an appointment for the upcoming Saturday. At this point, everything was fine. Saturday came and I made the 4 hour drive up to Show Me Auotmall in Missouri. When I got there I informed them I was there to see a truck. They pulled it around fairly quickly and I took the truck out for a test drive. I should have seen the red flags when on the test drive, the particular sales agent kept repeating to me how "honest" he was and how he wouldn't rip customers off, because then the dealership wouldn't have repeat business if they did that. This was probably my first clue to bail. The real trouble started when I got back from the test drive. After we got back, I gave the vehicle a walk around and inspection of the engine bay. I noticed the engine bay was missing it's standard plastic cover. When I asked the sales agent about this, he gave me some story about how the service guys were inspecting the vehicle because they just got it and the cover must be in the shop. He ran around the building fairly quickly and then informed me that the shop was closed due to it being the weekend. When I expressed my concern, he offered to drop the price by $100 on the spot. I continued on my inspection and saw several deep gashes on the passenger side door, when I saw this I asked for the Carfax. The sales agent assured me that the truck had not been in an accident, as the car fax reported no accident. I asked how it was possible that the vehicle could have damage on it, without an accident listed on the Carfax. Without skipping a beat, the agent told me that it was possibly not reported and that those kinds of things happen all the time. That was another clue that I should've just bailed. I know now that I should've just left, but since I had driven the 4 hours there, I really felt compelled to buy something so as not to have wasted my whole Saturday. To shorten this story, I went the 2 or 3 hours it took to negotiate a price I was comfortable paying. This was after fighting with the General Manager to get the standard 3,000 mile/3 month used car warranty they claim to offer on every used vehicle they sell. Which they initially refused to do because they claimed they just received the truck and hadn't had time to even inspect it yet. Another major clue that I should have left. So much more stuff happened that I don't have room to write more about, but I'll list: - The sales agent had switched the contract to a 7 year/84 month loan without telling me, when I had stressed that I wanted a 5 year/60 month loan. - After I took the truck to a local mechanic, I was told the engine had been completely replaced with a salvaged engine. The engine that was use came from a vehicle that was 6 years older than the truck I purchased, but I was never told this. - The A/C compressor failed, but I only discovered that after the 3,000 miles/3 month warranty had expired. - The truck started throwing engine codes and I just eventually sold it to CarMax I should've have just listened to my gut and left, but that doesn't change the fact that this dealership engages in shady and deceptive sales tactics and that this remains the worst car buying experience I have ever had. Having to argue with the GM to get the basic warranty they advertise on their website and in-store. Being lied to and belittled by the GM, the Finance Manager and the sales agent. More

I got a call back from Toby Smith who asked what I was looking for and said if he got any vehicles in matching my request he would get back with me. He called a couple days later to see if there was anything he could help me with and emailed me a few vehicles matching my description. I ended up buying a car elsewhere, but it was because I found what I was looking for there first. I felt like Show Me Auto Mall was very helpful without being pushy at all. I would definitely look into them next time I need a car. More
