I came to Shelor looking for a used Dodge Ram. I had dealt with Mike in the past and always had good luck so I knew he would be able to help me out. For several weeks I browsed all the car dealerships in the Christiansburg, VA area and, as far as selection, there was no competition with Shelor Motor Mile. Even still, all of the dealers at Motor Mile the Christiansburg, VA area and, as far as selection, there was no competition with Shelor Motor Mile. Even still, all of the dealers at Motor Mile were very friendly and helpful without being overbearing. My fiance had the pleasure of being assisted by Adam Hankins, who was genuinely helpful in getting him the car he wanted. When I was ready to purchase a car for myself, I looked forward to working with Adam again. Both my fiance and I are thrilled with Shelor Motor Mile and we highly recommend them for a variety of interests and budgets. More
I don't know where all these positive reviews came from, but this certainly wasn't our experience. I have never in my life been talked down to and treated with such disrespect. The car I wanted was ob from, but this certainly wasn't our experience. I have never in my life been talked down to and treated with such disrespect. The car I wanted was obviously overpriced for it's condition (KBB was over $1,000 less than asking price for excellent condition, which this was not) but I was willing to overlook that for the right price. I visited with my husband the first time and saw Adam Hankins who was nice, when we brought the car back after an overnight test drive, we had to talk to Jason Etzel and Ben Brown because Adam Hankins was not there. We told them we were interested, but after looking at the comparables and noticing many scratches, rusty chips in the paint, a few small missing parts, and finding the Carfax online that showed it being a previous rental car, we were not willing to pay the price they were asking, but would still try and negotiate since we liked it. Needless to say, they wanted none of that. They didn't even seem at all interested in what we were talking about and made no effort to look at the car, just claimed their price was fair... it wasn't, they knew it, they knew I knew it and they hated that. They made us sit in the office anyway, give them all our info...again... by the way, no one ever looked me in the eye and only spoke to my husband (even though the car would be for me) except when they wanted to know my occupation and cell phone number. The last time I checked, this was not the middle east, I can buy a car on my own if I darn well please! For some reason, car salesmen hate when you know what you're talking about and want nothing to do with you. I guess if I was an idiot who just stumbled in off the street and said "Ooh, pretty car... can I buy it from you? Please???" I would've have been treated with a little respect. I really feel for Adam Hankins who actually seemed like a decent guy and would've made the easiest sale of his life, but was ruined by these two arogant yahoos. I hope their wives, mothers and daughters are treated with more respect than these two showed me this evening. I know this is a very big and popular dealership in this area, but please, go just a couple hours south to NC and get a tremendous deal or at least a smaller dealership who actually care if they sell you a car or not. I personally, am driving 2 hours south tomorrow and buying the exact same car with no defects for $2,000 cheaper! More
On Oct 3rd, I put my name into the web page for Shelor. The same day I was contacted by their Internet person who assured me if I came up on Saturday he had tons of 4x4's to look at. On Oct 5th 2013, we drove from Roanoke to Christiansburg to look at used cars. We met the Interenet sales person who was eating at the time. He said oh hang on he would get us a salesman. WAIT What are you?? So we end up with Adam Hankins. We go into his office and tell him we want a 4wd or AWD. It has to be $250/month or less. We had a 2003 Crysler Town and Country van to trade in. We also told him our credit is not that great. Within 5 minutes he pulls up this Chevrolet SUV at $13000. We test drove it and I was like, nope we cannot afford this. Sure enough he pulls some numbers from somewhere and it is $380/month +. So we tell him no. He gathers all of our information and says he can at least run the numbers to see what we have. Later a finance manager comes in, who was watching a football game on tv mind you, and says ok folks the $383 is what we have for this car. We said NOPE $250 or less. His comment was "Did you read a book on how to buy a car?" I was stunned. So we left with no car. Fast forward to the weekend of Oct 12th. We go up again. This time I do not have all day to sit at a dealership. We drove a few other cars that again were not what we really wanted. We didn't like anything again and said no and left. Keep in mind as we are gone, Adam is calling several times a day and emailing asking do you like this, or that. He was even sending me FWD cars. NO THAT IS NOT WHAT WE WANTED! Adam begins to get angry and say, they do not have a lot for me to choose from because I have to be under 100,000 miles and under $11,000 to be at my payment goal. But online I found several cars that meet this. So I sent him the list. We go up again on Oct 19th to see what I had found online. A used Nissan Pathfinder. Once I get there, Adam says "someone dealer tagged it last night. It's not here. But you can drive this Jeep Patriot here. The Nissan will be back soon." So we drove the Jeep. We did not like it. Still no Pathfinder. He then says we have a 2007 Nissan XTerra. So I drive it. I liked it. It would be a good fit for me. So we go inside and look at numbers. Back and forth and back and forth. Adam tells me the girl returned the Pathfinder but doesn't want it because she says there is something wrong with the power steering. I find that comment odd. Why would you be trying to sell it if something is wrong?? I notice that when they open "Our File" on their desk they lean back in the chair so we cannot see what is in our own folder. After hours and hours, we got it. We are now headed across the street to the Finance offices. We sit over here for just a little under 20 minutes. Go in, sign, payment looks good. Adam comes back to get us. Says the Nissan was getting cleaned. When we pull up it is beside my old van so I can get items out. We load up and leave. Happy with the car. We drive all the way back to Roanoke. Sunday we drive to the grocery store and back. Round trip 10 miles. Monday I drive to work and home. Round trip 12 miles. Tuesday morning I am driving to work. Half way there, I am hear a POP and that's it, no transmission, wheels are not moving. It is 700am and I am stranded. I get pulled over and call Adam. He doesn't answer. So I leave a not so nice message stating to call me asap, I have a car I have put less than 100 miles on and I am broke down! He texts me back in 5 minutes and says call the service department, they will tow you. I wait over an hour for the tow truck to come from Christiansburg. The truck comes and loads the 3 day car up and leave. Now I am over 3 hours late to work. All the while Adam is not answering my calls. He will only text or email. I have expressed I am NOT paying for a new transmission. NO WAY! The service manager Jason calls and says "he is not sure what it is. He doesn't work on Nissans". LOVELY! But he says it may not be the transmission. Adam begins to tell me it may be a cablelink or a shifter issue and begins to tell me how to move the shifter from P to D....uh DUH! Meanwhile I have no car. I have to use my father-in-laws car. I tell Adam to send me the Car Fax and what do you know? A recall for a radiator leak that can flood the transmission and seize it up. Hmmm Wednesday Jason gets back to me. Guess what. The radiator leaked into the transmission and I need a new radiator and transmission. I tell him no way. I called, emailed, texted Adam and his supervisor Jason Etzel with no answers. Finally Adam says his manager Jason Etzel will call me. Didn't happen, so I call him from work because he doesn't know this number on caller id. He answers. I tell him I refuse to pay for a transmission on a 3 day old vehicle and that I do NOT WANT the car back. He can trade my loan out for another of comparable value. He says he has to ask the owners. He calls later that afternoon and says OK the owners say you can change out. I have to be up there the next day though. Thursday after work we go up and get there at 4:30. We drive 3 cars. We like one - 2008 GMC Envoy. By 600pm we say yes we want this one. We proceed to sit from then until 900 before we get into a finance person. I believe this was done intentionally as others in the finance room got called right back before us even though we had been there longer. While we are back there, the finance person is rude and very cold. They go over and go over the 14 day/1500 mile 50/50 warranty. I don't care what it says. It breaks down on me again that soon....I am going to be very angry. Once we leave and have the GAP our payment is now at $300. Nice job Shelor. We finally get home on a work night/school night at 10:15pm. So far I have been driving this one almost a week and no issues but I am going to have a dealer here check it out. Please do yourself a favor and do not go there. I don't know how they can stay in business. I see lots of car with their stickers on the back. How can they operate and do this to so many different people? It just does not make sense to me. Now every time my new car makes any little noise I cringe. I am so afraid. RUN RUN RUN More
