I'm from The Bronx, I'm naturally skeptical of car dealerships and I went to Security Dodge to get my dream car, a 2011 Kona Blue Metallic Ford Mustang GT. I first peeped the car on KBB.com. It car dealerships and I went to Security Dodge to get my dream car, a 2011 Kona Blue Metallic Ford Mustang GT. I first peeped the car on KBB.com. It fit the right parameters of everything I wanted: manual, low mileage, the right distance from NYC (1 hour), even an insane color that can look bright purple in direct sun and straight black at night. The first thing I noticed was that the price was more than reasonable. So I decided to make the trip out to see it. I came ready to buy but I remained skeptical and reserved judgment until I got there. I don’t know much about Amityville but I know Hunts Point and Jerome Ave shops along with having visited enough car dealerships in a year to know the routine. I first contacted them online, big up to the live chat and its availability. KBB.com didn’t have the phone number as I wanted to call and make double sure they had the car before I went. So I went to the website to get the number and being lazy, saw they had live customer service and got Jenna Goldstein who took my information first and answered my questions for a few days before I even went to the spot. I have to say that I appreciated them having it up because I had some concerns about the car as a history report I ran showed it had a lien on it - she was online and available on the weekend before they even technically opened and reassured me that it wasn’t an issue. After some googling I realized dealerships will sometimes take in a car with a low lien on it and use your payment to pay off the lien and transfer the title. After I learned this I was like ok no problem. I got to Security and from the moment I stepped in the door until the second I drove the car off the lot, they were super real with me. My mechanic flaked out on me and so I came with family, some kids as well and not only was everyone courteous and helpful but they were also very straight forward which I appreciated immediately. Nice place, not a bad little showroom with the lounge area, my people were comfortable while I did my thing. I liked that they had a good range of vehicles and an assortment of something for everyone no matter who you are. Don’t get me wrong, I was there SPECIFICALLY to buy THIS car. But I realized immediately from browsing the website that they didn’t carry many Ford cars and that my Mustang was one of three in their inventory, an Old Guard sitting in the back with a sea of Camaros out front. So I was extra happy they keep the mix they do since they had just put my car up for sale a few days before I went to get it. The guy that made the difference was Brian Watts. Fantastic salesman. He first showed me that this place wasn’t like the usual places. Whoever is hiring over there, they are putting a heavy emphasis on keeping a positive and earnest vibe. Brian was up front and honest with me about the quality of the car and the price from the start. I knew it was a good deal relative to the tristate area when I scoped the car from afar. But even after I got in the place, ran my diagnostics scanner and saw that the car was solid, I bartered for a major discount. I loved Brian because he offer me the straight numbers from the beginning and told me with confidence what his flexibility was. I still insisted on going up the chain to see that the ultimate price was what I envisioned. Mike Cruz the Used Sales Manager was pretty eloquent in explaining the little wiggle room as the price was initially set at a deliciously attractive line… relative to the market. The calculator came out, concessions join the party as the taxes and fees were being thrown in and I stepped outside to think about it. Price is what this whole dealerrater website is about, no? People searching for the best quality car for what they pay. I walked out into the parking lot and looked at my car from across the street and realized that the overwhelming factor in my decision was that the most important thing, the price, remained as it initially was - very reasonable. For the price to have started with little hassle and ended up at a place where I was more than comfortable with it… especially for a Mustang GT? Hell yeah I had to take it. Many thanks and much love to Rich Sollano, he handled the paper work masterfully and honestly if you are ever in this place you HAVE to look at his office. I can’t even describe the collection he has in there but the place radiates for anyone who appreciates athletes of any sport. All in all I had to say that my visit to Security Dodge was a pleasure, the people were nice, the price was priced just right, and I’d recommend them. Especially Brian, he’s got a great sense of professionalism along with a comfortable and amiable demeanor. Gives the facts when you ask him questions and is all about giving you the time to make up your own mind and while he tells you what you want and need to know. This was also a resonating quality with everyone else I encountered there but especially him. Very upfront and honest, the exact opposite of bait-‘n-switch. As a pretty new age car dealership, they emphasized transparency and decreased haggling. I would send friends and family here if they were looking for a car… and I might even stop by someday after I install the second battery to help support the extra bass, fridge, PS3, projector, and microwave I have lined up. Thanks to all for making it a great experience. More

UPDATE: SECURITY DODGE'S RESPONSE TO MY REVIEW - this is how much they care about their service and reputation PRIVATE Response From: Security Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram SRT Added: 7/9/2013 2:39:39 PM is how much they care about their service and reputation PRIVATE Response From: Security Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram SRT Added: 7/9/2013 2:39:39 PM I DO APOLOGIZED FOR YOUR BAD EXPERIENCE. ALISE This adventure started off well enough, be it a bit odd that the salesman, Joe Smith, approached me and the first thing he asked was if i wanted to drive one(of the Wrangler Unlimteds I was looking at) without showing me or telling me anything about it, but I guess these are pretty basic cars at the end of the day. I said sure and we walked over to their lot. After he realized his key didn't work for any of the ones on the lot he came back with another one which wasn't a big deal at all. The test drive was alright, but Joe didn't seem to know much about the vehicle. I asked if they had a USB port for the iPod connection and he said 'ohh nah none of them do' and two seconds later my girlfriend discovered one in the console. This was bad, but it got much worse once we got back to the dealership. The entire reason I went to Security Jeep was because they were advertising $2k below invoice on in-stock Wranglers and they have a ton of Commando Greens in stock that they've had since at least January when I started being interested in them. I thought I'd check it out. Knowing that there's no such thing as a free lunch I was expecting a bunch of crap, but hoping for the best especially after reading positive reviews online. Do not trust those reviews, apparently people are complete idiots or I had the one terrible experience ever - and i highly doubt the latter. What I found was worse than I could ever imagine. We sat down and the first thing out of of the salesman's mouth was so are you trading your car or not in a pretty aggressive manner. I responded that it was something we could talk about and that I hadn't really made a decision, but for now let's talk about the price of the Jeep. With that he asks for my registration and keys and I knew my keys were magically going to disappear. They eventually came back, but not until we started talking about balloon financing and $450/month payments ALL BEFORE WE EVEN DECIDED ON A CAR! I became very agitated and asked what car we're talking about because last I checked, I hadn't even told them what I wanted beyond Commando Green and I told them I certainly was not negotiating based on payments. So when we discussed the packages I wanted he came back with 'so you want to custom order?' to which i replied ‘or you could try to locate one.’ Joe comes back with 'well we could but then we can't give you as good a deal.' I was expecting this, but then he lied to me. He told me that when they locate a car they don't always trade cars with the dealership(this may be true), so then I mentioned that since they bill themselves as the Northeast's highest volume dealership they receive factory rebates and kickbacks for selling volume and they get their cars below invoice price - invoice price, like just like MSRP, is not the end all be all number a dealer pays. He came back with 'not on the Wrangler, it's too hot'. Yeah buddy, the car I've seen 10 of in the same color on your lot for 5 months and you're advertising 2k below invoice is too hot, okay. So now that something out of their inventory is off the table, the trade in for my car drops to $3000 from $6500(this is on a car with a private party sale value of $9200 and a retail value in excess of $10k and a trade in around $7200 - the $6500 number was okay, $3000 was a smack in the face) and he asks what I'd be willing to pay for the car they've located which has a sticker of $36k and change. I tell him that I'd like to be down around invoice and he asks me what I think invoice is. I respond that without putting it into a calculator I'd guess around 31k. He tells me I'm completely wrong(which it turns out i was by about 2k - I'm actually considered emailing him to admit my wrong because that's just how I am) and comes back with his sales manager. The sales manager plays good cop and tells me all he's concerned with is 'moving metal' and if he could make a penny on this deal he'd do it. I tell him okay, so I've made an offer, come back to me with something. He comes back with $35,500. At this point I can put this car into TrueCar.com and get a better price than that without even haggling. I'm done and he tells me so basically you don't trust us, right? I tell him that's completely right and he asks how he can prove to me that he's giving me the absolute best deal anywhere. I told him that there's absolutely no way he could prove that to me and I'll need to figure it out for myself. At the end of the day the experience left me so sick that I would have rather paid more from a reputable dealership than give these guys business. To top it off, after leaving their dealership I did some deeper digging and found that there were 5 Jeeps within 250 miles of me outfitted how I’d like them and the dealership who ‘had the one jeep within 250 miles exactly how I’d like it’ actually had two and they were advertising them online for a full $2k below what Security claimed was the best deal I’d ever find. I walked out and never heard from anyone at Security again and I'm glad I didn't. It's a shame that places like this continue to be able to operate in an environment where it'd take people two minutes to share their terrible experiences. More
Greg is the man! I already knew I wanted the 2014 Jeep Cherokee going into the dealership but he actually broke down the difference between each year and model, which help me decide exactly which model to Cherokee going into the dealership but he actually broke down the difference between each year and model, which help me decide exactly which model to go with. He took his time and was very courtesy to all my needs. Very helpful and understanding. If you go to Security Dodge make sure you ask for Greg Harden salesmanship done right. More
