After several weeks of engaging with Security Dodge regarding a 2022 Series II Jeep Wagoneer priced at $79k, I committed to purchasing the vehicle in an all-cash transaction. I live in Maryland and nee regarding a 2022 Series II Jeep Wagoneer priced at $79k, I committed to purchasing the vehicle in an all-cash transaction. I live in Maryland and needed to travel over 4 hours to Amityville, NY. After coordinating travel, I was informed for the first time by the dealership that the vehicle wasn't actually waiting for me but had been driven for weeks by the owner's. I thought the car was ready for purchase, but instead, it had an additional 1,000+ miles on it. Therefore, the original Carfax report was incorrect, as was the mileage reported to me during negotiations. Upon arrival at Security Dodge, I went to test drive the car for the first time and noticed it was in terrible condition and had been falsely advertised. While inspecting the vehicle, I found a huge key line scratch running from the back to the front. The dealer representative assisting with the test drive remarked, 'Ahh, oh wow, um, I'll ask if they can buff that out...'. Further examination revealed more unacceptable issues: a melted cigarette burn on the dashboard, seatbelts that appeared to be chewed by a dog, numerous scratches on the backs of the front seats, and permanent marks from car seats on the second row. I immediately declared the vehicle in unacceptable condition and walked out of the dealership. Security Dodge then attempted to retain my certified check and offered to make a deal on another vehicle. Initially, this seemed like a turn for the better, but it was just the beginning of more problems. After negotiating for another car, I had to revise my insurance cards and arrange for additional funds, as this vehicle was $10k more expensive. I had now been at the dealership for over 8 hours. Even after the car was supposedly ready, the first round of paperwork was incorrect (it included taxes), and I had to wait for the notary to return to the dealership. Finally, when I was in the car ready to drive back to Maryland, a 4+ hour journey, the power steering light was blinking. I was told this was normal and would turn off after 10 miles of driving. However, 300 miles later, the light was still on, and after 500 miles, it remained on. Security Dodge assured me there was nothing to worry about and that it was safe. Unfortunately, during the first week of having the car, my wife and children were driving when the power steering went out, nearly causing a catastrophic accident. I opened a case with Wagoneer, and they confirmed the vehicle should NEVER have been released with the power steering light on. Now, I have to coordinate getting this brand-new car to a local dealership for repairs. While Security Dodge has been apologetic during this process and even sent me mats for the car in an effort to make up for all the aforementioned issues, it goes without saying that accountability for what's advertised, and more importantly, safety and customer peace of mind, need drastic improvement. One can understand why, given these events - negotiating for a vehicle, driving over 4 hours from MD to NY, being unaware the car was in use by Security Dodge's owner, receiving incorrect mileage reports three times, finding the vehicle in unacceptable condition, agreeing to a more expensive car, and then having that car released with a warning light leading to a near accident - this experience has been terrible.
