Buyer beware! Please read My experience was terrible. I was helping a friend research for a reliable vehicle and Scott Clark had one online. I contacted the internet departme My experience was terrible. I was helping a friend research for a reliable vehicle and Scott Clark had one online. I contacted the internet department and spoke with Julian. To his credit, he made it clear up front that they do not "hold" vehicles or take deposits. OK I get that; however, we're located 3 hrs away, so its not a trip right around the corner. I told him what we could spend for a car "out the door" price (with all the fees added in..) and it totaled up to more than we had. I thanked him and said that we would just keep looking. About 90 min later, I get a call from him and he said his manager agreed to the price, so could we come in today? I said no, given the distance, but we could be there tomorrow in the evening and it would be a cash deal. Once again, he said you'll have to check tomorrow before you leave to make sure it was still available. Again no problem. The next day, we talked around 2pm and the car was still available, so we re-confirmed an appointment for 8pm that evening and acceptable method of payment. I picked my friend up from work and we headed out on the three hour drive. After driving for 2 hrs (one hr out from Charlotte) the phone rings... I figured he was checking on our drive; to make sure we were coming. Well, I was wrong.... he says there is another deal being generated on the car and he'd call me back.... 10 minutes later he calls and says its been sold! I don't need to elaborate the immediate exchange I had with him; suffice to say it wasn't pleasant. I understand not holding cars; but if the car is available/ and an appointment is agreed upon; then I would think that there is some obligation on the part of the dealer to wait to that time before selling the car. It doesn't prevent them from lining up a "back-up "deal to go into effect if I don't show up. I suspect that my "impending purchase" was probably used as a lever to get more money out of the individual who actually bought the car. My question is; I thought an internet department was to help develop sales beyond the immediate area....? It doesn't work if some allowance isn't made for the distance/and or arrangements people have to make to get there. Now, maybe your experience will be the best with Scott Clark Toyota; hopefully it is.... but I'd be advised that there is a "typical car dealership" mentality at least in part there. So, Buyer beware ! More
