I purchased a 2012 Honda Accord from Tim Fox at Scott Clark Honda. Tim was the best! He was excellent to deal with during the buying experience. I would recommend anyone interested in a vehicle to see Clark Honda. Tim was the best! He was excellent to deal with during the buying experience. When I purchased the car on a saturday all the contract work was supposedly completed I signed what I thought was my final contract. Two weeks later I was left a message saying finance had fell through and work was supposedly completed I signed what I thought was my final contract. Two weeks later I was left a message saying finance had fell through and I would need to sign a different contract with higher interest rates, higher payments and without the insurance I had elected for in the original contract. When I told them I would not be signing a new contract I would rather just bring it back I was told by Brian that I had actually signed something that stated I had purchased the car anyways and it wouldn't be that easy.He even stated that my down payment maybe difficult for me to get back not stating why. He then stated he would have someone call me back and never heard anything.... The issue gets a little more stickier but I highly recommend not going to make purchases on the weekends if you are not sure about your credit or even during the week, if you cant get your own financing do not make a deal with this dealership!!!! This is by far the best car purchasing experience that I have ever had. They were friendly, fair, helpful, and most importantly knowledgeable about the financing process. I walked in with financing and walk have ever had. They were friendly, fair, helpful, and most importantly knowledgeable about the financing process. I walked in with financing and walked out with better financing through their efforts. Buying a car can be stressful but I must say these folks do a great job in taking out some of the stress from the process by taking the time to understand their customer's needs and situations. More
Tim Fox happened to be walking through the parking lot when I pulled up to engage in Car Dealer Battle and, as it turned out, that was a very good thing for my car buying experience. Having researched onl when I pulled up to engage in Car Dealer Battle and, as it turned out, that was a very good thing for my car buying experience. Having researched online, I knew the exact car I was looking for (2008 Odyssey EX-L). Tim gave me a tour of the vehicle, walking me through all the basics. He wasn't selling me, just explaining things and answering questions, and I appreciated his style - professional, knowledgeable, friendly and low-key. I took it for a spin and then sat down to talk turkey while they took my trade-in (99 Acura RL that has seen a few things) to the garage to give it the once-over. I came in braced for negotiations battle and I was not the most cordial or easist customer to deal with. But I wasn't there to make friends, just make a good deal and write the smallest check possible. Tim was reasonable and professional with the negotiations, trying to understand my thinking and work with me, while at the same time toeing the line for the dealership side. Another guy sat down to have some back and forth with me and I wasn't a big fan, but the dude was just doing his job trying to help close the deal. I walked away that first night, but Tim called the next day and we hammered out a number over the phone that I was happy with. I came back in that night to handle all the paperwork. Tim explained all the steps and made it as painless as possible. Bryant in Finance was solid. Wasn't much interested in the upgrades/upsell conversation they step you through, but hey, it's a car dealership, not a non-profit soup kitchen. The employees at check-out (Alex and another lady) were quick and efficient. An hour after getting there, I was driving away a happy camper. Bottom line: if you find yourself at Scott Clark Honda, go find Tim Fox and he'll take care of you. More
WARNING, BUYER BEWARE - Scott Clark Honda took advantage of my 73 year old mother in the lease of a new Honda. My father passed away in May, 2012, and a leased Honda Accord was left in the estate. My mother of my 73 year old mother in the lease of a new Honda. My father passed away in May, 2012, and a leased Honda Accord was left in the estate. My mother began receiving letters from Honda dealers trying to get her to trade and threatening that she may go over her mileage limit and therefore be subject to a mileage penalty. She had never negotiated a vehicle purchase or lease, my father always did this, so when she visited Scott Clark Honda, the Scott Clark salesman clearly saw the opportunity to take complete advantage of her, and did so. For anyone reading this note and thinking my Mother should have known better, on this we mutually agree, including my Mother. Her tendency to trust people until proven that they cannot be trusted got her into trouble. Unfortunately, that is not a safe approach if/when so inclined to deal with Scott Clark Honda. As if basing a lease on MSRP on a model year old car was not exorbitant enough, the Scott Clark salesman added unsubstantiated fees and grossly overpriced aftermarket options above MSRP to the lease to increase her monthly lease costs. She ended up with 2012 Civic, a smaller cheaper car than her Accord, but after these exhorbitant unsubstantiated fees and grossly overpriced aftermarket options (ie. Teflon wax job and pinstripe) were added, she is paying more for this Civic than she was for her Accord. The MSRP of the car was ~$20,000, but by the time of all these unnecessary fees and grossly overpriced optioned were added, the capitalized cost was over $23,000. Really want to get a sense of just how egregious this misconduct was? Just ask Scott Clark about their $699 documentation fee imbedded in these add-ons......nothing but pure unearned profit added to the price. To give you a sense of how bad this is, Virginia car dealers are limited by law to $250 and Maryland dealers to $100 just because of this type of abuse, and this is still predominately unearned profit added to their price. From my perspective, Scott Clark demonstrated unethical and abusive sales practices that should not have occurred. Likewise, the Honda dealerships sending these letters, or American Honda Finance if also involved, simply scared her into having to look for a new car, and the Scott Clark Honda dealership abusively took advantage of the situation. Sadly, it may well be contractually legal in NC for Scott Clark Honda to do this given the quite weak consumer laws in the state of NC. Therefore, I felt the need to write a "buyer beware" note here. This lack of integrity exacerbates all the unethical stereotypes car dealers tend to face, and there are some quite reputable dealers that really do not deserve this. In the case of Scott Clark Honda however, this derogatory stereotype was earned, and I suspect this tendency may also permeate the culture of other AMSI affilated dealerships. Scott Clark Honda and AMSI, you should be ashamed! More
