After more than a half-dozen trips in 4 months to the service department for the same reasons in the San Diego area (Encinitas BMW), we took our X-5 in once again, but this time to Schomp BMW, after just service department for the same reasons in the San Diego area (Encinitas BMW), we took our X-5 in once again, but this time to Schomp BMW, after just relocating to Colorado. Again this was for the same issues we have had since buying the vehicle in late 2010. We were so frustrated at this point that we were just about to drive the vehicle through the show-room window and throw the keys at someone and tell them to take it back. But we gave Schomp a chance to correct it and they have gone a long way in winning us back as BMW customers. I drive an X-6 and my wife came out of a 3-series when we bought this X-5, so I consider us good BMW customers and we're not looking for free repair. During this period of Encinitas not correcting our problem, the vehicle fell out of manufacturers warranty, and the Certified warranty did not cover this issue that was finally corrected by Schomp. But Ricky Stegmaier, Service Advisor, did a ton of research on the past service appointments and saw that this should have been repaired and covered. And he went to bat to get this covered as it should be. But he took ownership and did what was right, and in doing so, he probably saved this relationship with BMW and brought future business in for Schomp. I know it takes a team so there were others involved, but Ricky took ownership and communicated with us the whole way. I don't usually spend the time out my busy schedule to acknowledge things like this, but this was called for as you don't get great service these days at most places. Ricky was fantastic. I'm always happy with the service experience at Schomp. The service dept was able to find an update to my car software. The car does not hesitate when I drive off from a full stop. They also were able to tell me why my key fobs were no being recognized, due software. The car does not hesitate when I drive off from a full stop. They also were able to tell me why my key fobs were no being recognized, due to me leaving the fob in the car. A big no-no. Also the am stations were making lots of popping noises. They found a defect with the insulation and corrected it. Got the best customer service ever!!! More
The service is always beyond expectation. Everyone is friendly and helpful. Oil service had been done quick and in a polite manner. Mr Stegmair informed me that my car was ready, showed me where it was and we politely said good bye. Upon looking at my car door prior to opening I noticed scratch marks on the outside of the passenger door. I called asked someone to call Mr Stegmair for me and when he returned I showed him the passenger door. He said he hadn't noticed it when he did his check of the car after the work was completed so he had no way if knowing when it had happened, but he would arrange a time for it to be repaired. At this time we are still playing phone tag to find a time that he can have it done. More
I mentioned that occassionally the serpentine belt squeals. The service guy said the belt and the tensioner looked okay. We purchased our 2008 535xi almost 2 month ago. Noticed recently how loud the cooling fan was and when it went off it shook and shuddered everything inside the car (including our kids in the backseats!) When we bought the car, we knew we wanted to bring it back in anyways to make the radio satellite capable. So we decided to do it all at once. I called on a Wednesday and spoke with Mike Gibson initially, who passed my call to someone named Lori whom I was told was a technician by Mike. Told her my concerns and she seemed very knowledgeable and we proceeded to set up an appointment. She told me that they couldn't get me in till Friday because the dealership was closing early on Thurs. for a party so Friday was the earliest. I said that was fine but then I was informed that they didn't have one loaner available to me till the following Wednesday!! I was shocked since Schomp BMW boast about having over 100 loaners for their customers!! We proceeded to drop off the car early Friday morning as instructed, asked for Mike and tried to recap our conversation on the phone and my conversation with Lori. He then told me that Lori was just a receptionist so then I asked him, "Why did you have me talk with her then?!" He said "I thought maybe she could help you." How, I wasn't sure!! I was again shocked at what he was saying to me and from that point on I lost all confidence in Schomp... Three days go by and Mike called my husband and told him that my car was fixed, not they couldn't find the noise, but fixed. We even provided them with a video of the sound it was making (sounded like a 747 taking off and felt like it too) As I had expected, we picked up the car and it wasn't fixed and found a mess in the trunk!! They installed my satellite but left bits and pieces of components and covers in my trunk all in a disarray and not put back together!! I was livid. We were leaving for vacation the following week, so I didn't have time to address my concerns. After we got back, I was sent a survey through email on how they performed in the service dept. and I proceeded to voice my concerns, honestly. I didn't think anyone actually read these surveys but lo and behold, someone actually got back to us and asked what happened and how they could fix it. Well, all in all, it took a second time there, promise that I didn't have to deal with Mike Gibson, another 3 days without my car and my husband driving the car around, then waiting about 30 minutes after to trigger the cooling fan for them to hear the noise and fix it. They ended up replacing the whole fan housing unit and now it runs like a dream. I understand that it may have been a hard thing to diagnose but I didn't appreciate the dismissal I got on my first visit, you only get one chance to make a first impression!! We didn't need to buy this car but wanted to and thought Schomp was the most reputable. The sales team sold us on how great their service department was because that's where the true test lies and this fiasco almost lost me!! Thank you Steven & crew for working with us and saving a customer for your dealership! We plan on purchasing from Schomp again soon! You have to be persistent and request another Service Advisor if the one you have is not working for you, literally! Lastly, I would recommend that Schomp have their loaners cleaned after or before each customer takes possession. The two I used were pretty dirty, I had to clean them first before I could drive it...! More
