The concierge service that picked up my car and returned cleaned and disinfected was a real blessing. Kimmy McNary has an invaluable service for the greater Sarasota area. I doubt I will ever drive into the dealership for service again. Signed a thoroughly satisfied customer.Stephen Baerwalde More
Poor Customer Experience I used the inquiry option on their website to make sure a car was available before driving from Orlando to Sarasota to see a particular car. I receive I used the inquiry option on their website to make sure a car was available before driving from Orlando to Sarasota to see a particular car. I received a response that indeed the car was available, was in “excellent” condition and an appointment was set to see the car the next day. I took a friend with me in the event I bought the car so he could drive my car home. I was prepared to buy it if I liked the car and the price was right. The advertised price online was $22,700 however one of the emails that evening said they were giving me a special price of $22,450 that was $250 below their “promise price”. (That was a price I was seeing on this model and year car on advertisements around the country so with a little haggling thought we would be in a price range I was comfortable). This is not necessarily a “special” car. It’s a Lexus model made in the years of 2010-2015. This car was a 2013. I happen to like the model, but chances are it will sit at the dealership and might never be sold only to have them wholesale it back to the car auction. Remember, this is a Ford dealership and I am talking about a used Lexus. How many customers of a Ford dealership are there like me interested in a Lexus, this model? I felt we would be able to make reasonable deal. Before I arrived at the dealership the next day an email was sent to me that I did not read until arriving at the dealership saying, the car was in their “refinishing facility” (what’s that? Simply a detail or... more? ) and was available to be seen and test driven however, “it still needs ADDITIONAL body work” that they of course would be taking care of. (Say what?) Here I have driven two hours to Sarasota and they are telling me this now? So first, the car was not ready to be taken home if I chose to buy it because it needed work, and second, why is a car that is supposed to be in “excellent condition” in need of body work anyway and what body work has been done on the car previously that this was being referred to as “additional body work”? Well, I got back in my car without even looking at the vehicle and drove all the way back home emailing the dealership that I was not interested in a car that had bodywork and to cancel my appointment. This was my first indication this might be a dishonest dealership that says whatever to make a sale. Is the car in excellent condition or is it not? After getting home a few hours later I get an email saying, there was a miscommunication. It seems the “bodywork” was merely a slight dent in the rear bumper, it included a picture, and they said they were repairing it and as soon as it was repaired, they would let me know and I could come back and see it. They even offered me $200 in gift cards to come back and said they would give me a special price on the car given the circumstances. So I said to let me know when the car was ready to be seen. They said OK. The next morning, I get an email. Seems they determined that the dent on the bumper was so minor, they were just going to put it out on the lot as is, and see what happens since this weekend was some blow out sale they were having. Would I like to come in and see it ( implying before it was sold out from underneath me) How rude a response and a second clue this might be a dishonest dealership trying to manipulate me the buyer. I called the person I had been emailing to say I found their handling of this matter insulting, but realized when talking to the young lady I had been communicating with an inept admin assistant that was only doing what she was told and lacked writing skills. OK, I am was interested in the car. So, I told her I would drive over the next morning, however, I wanted their assurance they were not going to put the car out on the lot, and then email me it had been sold as I was driving over. A short time later I get at email from the admin assistants boss. Mr. big time salesman. He wants to give me the special pricing I requested. (Did I request pricing? not) So it starts with a price of $23,900. (This is $1450 more than their promise price of two days before of $22,450. ) But alas, they were discounting the car, $1450 just for me to make it $$22,450. BUT THEN, they added a $899 dealer fee (because that is what all dealers do even though not mentioned anywhere on their website. ) ( yeah they all do it, to misrepresent their selling price in negotiations, and increase their profits after they have negotiated with you in good faith on a purchase price). So bottom line they wanted $23,349 plus tax for a car that was advertised at $22,700 and what was emailed to me in writing at $22,450 never mentioning of a dealer fee. Mr big shot salesman calls me in follow up to the email. I asked, how is it you are starting at $23,900 in your pricing, when your advertised price is $22,700 and I already had an email offering the car at your “promise price” of $22,450 “because you want to be transparent”. After a few seconds of his BS, I said, hold it. Let’s not waste my time or your time. I will offer you $21,000 for the car, unseen, plus tax. He said that was unacceptable and we said goodbye. I don't like manipulative car salesmen. I do appreciate he saved me another unproductive drive to Sarasota. What else irked me Is the whole time is the admin assistant kept using the phrase “We want to be transparent”. I am sure this was her training. Yeah, they are as transparent as the dark of night. Oh, and everything was VIP. I had a VIP appointment. I was to talk to the VIP manager. I was a VIP. No, I felt the whole time a was patsy that was nothing more than someone’s path to a commission. There is so much more I could tell. But this is all I am going to waste my time in writing. I have nothing good to say about my experience with Sarasota Ford. More
