Hi Diane, the federal Fair Credit Reporting Act requires that a business which does not provide credit to an applicant be provided an Adverse Action Notice within a specified number of days. In your case, the credit check was made not for the purpose of applying for a loan, but to obtain reasonable assurance that the substantial personal check you wrote would be valid so that your son could take the truck home with him that day instead of having to wait for the check to clear first.
