Safford Chrysler Jeep Dodge of Fredericksburg responded

When we purchased this vehicle for stock, we ran an 'auto check' (carfax equal) on 2/3/2010. The auto check showed a completely accident-free vehicle. The customer states that she did not receive a carfax at the time of purchase - this is true because it was not our policy at the time to give the customer a copy of the carfax,or auto check in this case, at the time of purchase; however, if they asked for one, or in this situation, if they had called the next day or come in the next day, we would have certainly given them a copy. We did not hear from this customer again, other then service appointments, until after she went to another car dealer and traded in the 2006 jeep that she purchased from us. She told us about the carfax showing damage and the fact that she received $7000 less for the car then her pay-off. I told her that if she brought the car to me I would give her more for the car, but she said it was too late because she had already trade it. i also told her I would be happy to send her the original auto check that showed no damage before we sold her the vehicle, and I would send her the new carfax that showed only 2 minor repairs to the vehicle. I explained to her that 2 minor repairs on a carfax at a legitimate dealer should not lower the value of a trade-in by $7000. In addition, I located the vehicle that she traded in on auto-trader.com, being sold by the dealership that she went to, for $18988, quite a bit more then she was given for her trade, and it was sold within a week. If she would have brought the car into our dealership for trade, we would have given her much more for the vehicle, because it was worth quite a bit more then the other dealer gave her. it's unfortunate that this customer had the experience she did. Safford of Fredericksburg has a high level of customer service and an extremely high standard for the vehicles that we sell to our customers. If this customer would have brought her vehicle back to us for trade-in, instead of taking it to this other dealer, this whole situation would have had a completely different outcome. Unfortunately, because of the actions of the other dealer, Safford is the scapegoat.
