Rusnak Volvo Scammed Me Out of $9,500 and Acted Like They Were Doing Me a Favor The only decent part of my recent experience at Rusnak Volvo Pasadena was working with Patrick, who was a wonderful salesman Were Doing Me a Favor The only decent part of my recent experience at Rusnak Volvo Pasadena was working with Patrick, who was a wonderful salesman. Everything else was a nightmare. I purchased a new XC90 and drove it a grand total of 5 miles home before realizing it wasn’t the right fit for me. I immediately asked about returning it or exploring my options. The sales manager claimed he’d be doing me a huge favor by “unwinding” the deal—but on one outrageous condition: they kept my trade-in and slashed $9,500 off what they’d originally given me for it. His excuse? He insisted my XC90 was already registered in my name and therefore had to be resold as used, supposedly forcing them to eat the depreciation. Foolishly, I believed them. I took a massive financial hit—assuming it was my own mistake and that they were simply trying to help. They weren’t. The very next day, the XC90 I returned reappeared on their website at full MSRP—still labeled as “new.” Turns out they never actually transferred the car into my name. In other words, they canceled the sale on their end and pocketed an extra $9,500 from my trade-in while pretending they couldn’t sell the car as new. I feel dirty even typing about it. When I confronted them, the General Manager conveniently dodged written communication—likely to avoid creating an email trail. He finally responded once I insisted on writing, only to deny everything and refuse to make it right. Meanwhile: - My trade-in is now listed for nearly $20,000 more than what they paid me. - The XC90 I drove for 10 miles (already at 71 miles when sold to me) is still advertised as a new vehicle. - There’s no record on Carfax that the car was ever registered to me—another red flag. I gave Rusnak Volvo every chance to make things right. I simply asked them to either return my trade-in so I could sell it myself or honor the original trade-in price, since the renegotiation was based on false pretenses. They didn’t have to accept a return, but they could’ve just said “no returns” instead of faking a “favor” and pocketing thousands off my trade. At this point, it’s not even about the money—it’s about their unscrupulous way of doing business. I fully expect more gaslighting and denials in their response to this post, but I want others to be warned before going through what I did. And yes, maybe I’m an idiot for buying a car I wasn’t 100% sure about. But that doesn’t excuse Rusnak Volvo’s underhanded tactics. If you ignore my warning and still go to Rusnak Volvo, ask for the Silver Dawn XC90 Plug-In Hybrid (VIN YV4H60PB5S1351926) and request a $9,500 discount because it’s a “used” vehicle. Or if you want a preowned Cybertruck (VIN 7G2CEHED2RA001104), know they only paid $69,500 for it so negotiate hard. Or better yet save yourself the headache and walk away like I should have. More
