Dear Mr. V., We wish there were better news for you regarding the condition of your engine. Unfortunately it is binding internally and on its way to a complete and total seizure. Your engine oil filter, from your independent repair facility, has a substantial amount of metal particles embedded in it indicating that the failure has been in process for quite some time. These metal particles likely come from an engine bearing or crankshaft failure. To determine which bearing or part is failing it would require engine disassembly, something you’ve declined to authorize at this time. We understand that it would be done only for forensic purposes. At this time, with your engine having over 82,000 miles, the recommendation is a replacement. Since those metal particles have been circulating throughout your engine causing degradation on many internal engine parts your engine is not a candidate for rebuilding. When your insurance company investigated your concerns their final determination was that the failure was caused by a lack of maintenance. You’ve elected to utilize an independent repair facility for the last several years for your vehicles maintenance needs. Clearly we could not be responsible for an engine failure stemming from a lack of maintenance on a car serviced elsewhere for the last several years. We certainly empathize with you or anyone experiencing difficulties with their automobiles, it’s never anything other than stressful.
