I was told the dealership could work with it, which is why I made the trip. Once I arrived, the process became frustrating and disorganized. My original salesperson, Yaman, had limited knowledge of the IONIQ 9 and could not answer several basic EV-related questions. The first deal presented was structured as a purchase even though I had clearly explained that I was only interested in leasing. James Greco eventually stepped in after he could see the frustration on my face. From that point forward, James was professional, attentive, and made a genuine effort to understand what I was trying to accomplish. He was easily the best part of my experience at Route 1 Hyundai. The following day, Yaman called and said management wanted to make a deal, but he could not tell me what the revised offer actually was. He only wanted to schedule another appointment. After already spending two hours driving round trip and paying tolls, I was not willing to make another trip without knowing whether the numbers had changed. Instead, I called and texted James directly because he had earned my confidence and was the only person who seemed to understand the situation. I also received follow-up emails from owner Manny Lugo saying he would personally help and try to make the deal work. I appreciated the outreach, but after that, I never received an actual revised offer or clear follow-up from management. Two days later, I emailed to thank them and let them know I had purchased my IONIQ 9 from Burns Hyundai. Burns understood the situation, worked through the numbers remotely, coordinated the Honda lease issue through Burns Honda, and completed the deal without requiring another wasted trip. My main advice to Route 1 Hyundai would be to improve EV product knowledge among the sales staff and make sure the BDC team sets honest, realistic expectations before asking customers to travel to the dealership. Getting someone through the door should not be the only goal. Their time also needs to be respected. James Greco deserves recognition because he genuinely tried to help and is the reason this review is not harsher. After initially saying we weren't looking to leave in one tonight (they close in an hour at this point, 8pm) he suggested we look at some numbers anyways. After showing them to us, and going back and forth briefly, things quickly became heated as Juan started actively ignoring us or our questions, positionally arguing trying to make any offer we made look stupid or ill-informed, and at that point refused to shake my hand as we tried to leave. Instead gets up to get a manager. Now after closing time, this manager comes up again telling me an astronomical number just the same as Juan. After trying to refuse over and over and leave, they both kept pushing until I literally had to tell them 'be a man, be respectful, shake my hand' as I was standing to go. After doing so being as polite as I could be at that point, the manager blurts out 'Im not calling you back buddy, call me when you calm down'. Meanwhile, within 24hrs, next day we went to Circle Hyundai in Shrewsbury NJ, got the same car we wanted at an even better price than I was originally pushing back for. Needless to say, steer clear of this place, look at dealer sales and satisfaction scores, there is a reason this place isn't winning any awards. On the contrary, highly recommend Circle Hyundai, decent people, normal conversations. Also recommend the Sante Fe, calligraphy or limited, now having one in the house already one night - I can see we picked the right car :) More
Very poor and expensive services. Completely misleading ads and questionable coupons, with service staff who bring you in with a $69 coupon and then hand you a $1,000 bill. The sales rep Tyrell took care of every concern I had. This dealership makes you feel at ease, calm, and has a very positive aura. My next purchase of a vehicle will be (again) at RT 1 Hyundai. The people at Route 1 Hyundai gave me the best car buying experience ever. My lease cost was a great number - without an ounce of haggling. I live in Staten Island and was too sick to pick up my Hyundai Tucson. Instead of making me go down to them, they actually delivered the Tucson to my doorstep - and took my old leased SUV. I have never had that happen to me before Everything was just great with them. More
