Stumbled across Ron Tonkin Dodge via a referral from a friend. What a great experience it turned out to be. They actually had the car we were looking for at the price it was quoted. Wow...don't find that too much these days. It seems like the mantra is to advertise great deals that aren't really deals, and then push the customer to purchase something else. My husband and I researched the car we wanted and looked at several in the local area before deciding to make the 40+ mile drive to Tonkin to see one they had listed online. Once we got there we were instantly approached by the "typical" used car salesman. After looking at the car we found it to be in very poor viewing condition (not even vacuumed out) and were told it just got on the lot so it needed to be detailed. There was also a fuse that needed to be fixed but were assured those minor things would be no problem to fix. We then went into the dreaded negotiation with the salesmen going back and forth to his manager until finally he came out and we struck a deal (we were already pre-approved with our CU and told them upfront what we wanted). It was closing time at this point so we were given a loaner for then night and told our new car would be ready the next day after six pm. The following day I phoned to make sure it was ok to pick up and again was told by the Sales Manager it would be ready at six, they were just finishing up. We made the drive back down (in the WORST loaner- no dash lights, and the diver door leaking rain inside) only to be told it was not ready! They never attempted to phone us before hand and they knew how far we had to travel. We were very upset and so they said they would deliver it 1/2 to us the following day (Sat). We planned to be going out of town that morning so told them we would be happy to meet on Sun. When my husband called to set up a meeting time and place for Sunday we were told that it still was not ready. Again, no phone call in the time between to warn us it was not ready. At this point the Sales Manager would not take our call so my husband contacted the General Manager. So now we are at Monday morning at the general manager called to say that everything has been fixed and he promises we will get the car delivered to us today. It has yet to been seen but hopefully this nightmare will be over shortly and my car will be fixed and ready to go. This simple fix better not have been something more severe. The big disappointment is that as soon as the paperwork was signed our salesmen had nothing to do with us and even the sales manager of the lot wiped his hands of us. We felt we were told things just to make the sale. There was no communication and we had to seek out the assistance from the top to get any answers. I WILL NOT buy from Tonkin again and not recommend them either. I'll be keeping my money in my own state. More

After a horrible experience with AUTO TOWN across the street from the Tonkin Truck Center we found the complete opposite at Tonkin. Trying to rebuild credit and get service and have a pleasant time is rare to find in the car buying experience for a lot of people and for the most part with my girlfriend and I very unpleasant til we landed in the hands of Tonkin Truck Center to show us what our options were. Being upfront with them about our credit history and telling them our needs they went out of their way looking at inventory available at another lot in giving us a car we will have in our family for years to come. Their looseness and friendliness took the stress of us where we could kick our shoes off while signing the paperwork and chatting about our kids, and theirs and other small talk that made me feel like these people really cared about the experience we have and how we are feeling. I just want to thank our salesperson for being helpful, kind, funny, honest, and caring about our car needs and the sales manager and loan specialist for taking a chance with us and in turn giving them a new friend and future business from their neighbor from down the street, thank you again and we hope that anyone who reads this will see that other places on mcgloughlin just don't compare to Tonkin Truck Center and the excellent service they offer everyone.
