Beware – Shady Finance Tactics & Deceptive Promises I recently had a disappointing experience purchasing a 2024 GMC Sierra. While the sales representative was professional and not pushy, things took a turn for the worse once I reached the finance department. First red flag: I was asked to put down a deposit and sign paperwork before I ever saw or test-drove the vehicle. I was told this was to “expedite the process” and that if I didn’t like the car, they would work with me — supposedly their policy across all locations. That turned out to be false. After signing, I was not provided a single piece of paperwork — nothing showing terms, details, or disclosures. This was a clear tactic to keep me in the dark and make it harder to realize the deal was not truly finalized. When it came to discussing the extended warranty, we were negotiating on the Platinum (highest-tier) plan, but during the price discussion, the finance rep quietly switched to the lower Gold tier without disclosing it — just to make it seem like I was getting a better deal. This was a clear bait-and-switch tactic. They also manipulated the financing rate. I had a pre-approval from a local credit union at 5.57%, but they tried to lock me in at a rate 2 points higher. The moment I pushed back and was ready to walk away, they suddenly dropped it by 1 point — proving they weren’t being transparent from the start. The most frustrating part — I called the dealership the next morning at 8 AM, after discovering the engine in the model I purchased had a recent recall. I asked to switch to a different vehicle and was told “the sale is finalized”, even though I hadn’t inspected, test-driven, or taken delivery of the truck. My only option was to trade it in immediately and lose $8,000 in equity — on a vehicle I had never even driven. To put this in perspective, I recently bought an Escalade for my wife at another dealership, and the process was transparent, ethical, and exactly what you would expect when spending this kind of money. That’s why this experience stood out so sharply — the difference in professionalism was night and day. I want to be clear: I don’t believe in jeopardizing anyone’s job, so I won’t name names. But I strongly urge anyone buying here to be extremely cautious when dealing with the finance department. I will be filing formal complaints with the following agencies due to the misleading practices I experienced: Your State Attorney General’s Office Better Business Bureau (BBB) Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) – especially regarding shady financing tactics GMC / GM Corporate Customer Care Do not sign anything in advance. Know your credit. Double-check every detail — especially your warranty and financing terms. What seems like a smooth process can quickly turn into a trap. More
