Bought and returned new car in less than a week Iāll start off with my husband and I successfully purchased and returned a brand new vehicle, a Kia Niro 2020 LXS model, all in one week. On our first Iāll start off with my husband and I successfully purchased and returned a brand new vehicle, a Kia Niro 2020 LXS model, all in one week. On our first visit our salesperson was incredibly polite (much appreciated as this is how it should be). We returned the next day with the intention to purchase a vehicle and had a second salesperson assist us. During the negotiations, our salesperson directed all questions and feedback to my husband (totally fine but rather annoying) as we explicitly stated that I was the one who would be the owner / purchaser of the vehicle. We began negotiations with it being very clear upfront the one feature that was non-negotiable was the vehicle needed heated seats. Of course, there were other features I wanted as well but this was the main factor and absolutely non-negotiable. After being given a price above MSRP for the LXS model, we pushed back and began negotiating. The vehicle I test drove did not have heated seats but our salesperson, after discussing with a manager after some time, clarified that this was an option we could add but it would be an aftermarket version which was acceptable. We of course went back and forth several times and second Niro LX model was offered that had less features that the one LXS model I had test driven ā at this point a few hours had passed with negotiations and I made it clear that I wanted the LXS model and was uninterested in moving forward with less. I asked for my car keys back as another employee was evaluating my trade in option, but our salesperson persisted ā and did not retrieve my keys as I requested. We finally settled on a purchase price with the added heated seats written in the contract. We insisted the seats needed to be installed asap and our salesperson reassured us he would get it taken care of Monday. My husband and I signed the paperwork and had discussions with financing. As we were leaving the dealership, the rep casually mentioned that the 2020 Niros had a sensor issue and if we experienced a problem to bring the vehicle back in for service and it would be taken care of within a day or two. Of course, my husband and I were both irritated that this had not been addressed before we left ā an issue that service could have easily investigated and fixed. Less than 12 hours later, of course, the check engine light came on so we brought the vehicle back into the dealership on Monday. While weāre checking in and handing the keys back, I asked our salesperson about the heated seats and his response was he had not looked into it -my irritation was definitely growing as this was in our contract and I was back at the dealer with a check engine light barely a day after purchasing the car. We waited an hour and a half for both representatives to figure out a loaner car to put me into ā I was told the part was actually not in-stock but would be ordered and would arrive in a day or two. We also showed the rep a large scratch on the new vehicle. The salesperson tried to crack a joke that I had dinged up the car (neither myself nor my husband were amused) but we were assured this would be taken care of too. Again, I brought up the heated seats needing to be installed. My husband and I were told would, it would be investigated and scheduled. My husband and I made it clear that we needed this to at least be scheduled before we picked up the vehicle. We were assured that yes this would be addressed and taken care of ā spoiler alert this was never actually taken care of. Thursday morning (3 days later), a rep called to let me know the part would arrive either Friday or Saturday and depending when it arrived the car would most likely be ready Monday due to the holiday. I asked about the heated seats again and sales response was it would be looked into --- at this point I was very irritated since no one had bothered to actually schedule the installation let alone even check about availability. Friday morning, I received a call back from that the heated seats would be installed at a later date (still not scheduled and options not provided) and an installer would either come to my home to do or I would need to bring the vehicle back to have the installation. The information was quite vague. We received a second call a little later in the day alerting us that the vehicle was ready to pick up. My husband and I arrived Friday afternoon to pick up the car. When we checked inl, we again asked about the heated seats. Our rep looked confused and said oh Iāll check into it and get it scheduled but let me bring the vehicle around. At this point, I informed the rep just bring my trade-in vehicle, a purple Scion, back to the front as we were through here. He proceeded to joke with me several times about the way I pronounced purple Scion (incredibly rude) and insisted on getting the Niro. I told him that was not happening, bring around my Scion, and we were done doing business. My husband and I were very disappointed with the lack of customer service we received this entire experience. A manager then approached us and offered a haphazard excuse that the heated seats could not be installed until the financing was cleared ā my check processed Monday morning (it was now Friday). This had never been discussed with us and frankly was just a poor excuse. We told him due to the lack of service and communication, I would no longer be purchasing a vehicle. When my trade-in vehicle was brought to us, I immediately noticed a large scratch that occurred while in the dealershipās care. The passenger airbag sensor was also messed up and disconnected ā my husband had to reconnect the wiring when we returned home. Iām appalled by the lack of customer support this dealership has shown throughout this ordeal. Not only was the customer service and lack of respect by employees terrible, the treatment of my trade-in was appalling. Iām not sure how often a car is bought and returned but I assure you, the dealership will never have mine or my husband's business. More
