I purchased a 2004 Nissan Frontier on 9-18-2013 and was assured by the salesman Shane that all was in perfect working order with the truck. That a complete "safety" and mechanical inspection had been done by "The Grey Team"(the sticker was even in the front window of the truck) and that everything mechanical checked out. I purchased the vehicle, paying with cash in the amount of $13,790, which is no small purchase for me. I came to find out a few days later that the vehicle did not have a limited slip as advertised. I went in on that following Saturday to find out why I paid for something that was advertised but was not equiped on the vehicle. The General Manager Mitch told me that all the advertising was done by a "third party" and that the vehicles for sale on the lot were not guaranteed to be the same as what was being advertised. He told me that when I purchased the truck that I had entered into a "Third party agreement" and that it was "buyer beware". And that it was my responsibility to make sure that the vehicle was what was advertised. So in fact Rairdon's can't be held responsible for the vehicles they sell. Does that sound right? A heated dicussion ensued and I was told that if I went to small claims court I would be met with Rairdon's "Team of lawyers" and that I would have no chance of winning. I left the building very angry, and was followed out by Mitch who was also very angry and I was repeatedly "bull rushed" in the parking lot in a very menacing way. I got in my truck to leave but was not allowed to as the door was held, pushing against my leg pinning it between the door and the seat. Mitch was reading me the riot act, telling me what a great deal I got. I was then offered my money back for the vehicle, as Mitch said he sells 200 cars a year and this is just one sale. But for me it was not an option or a solution as I had already sold my other vehicle and was needing to get to work. I am self-employed and had been looking for another truck for quite some time. This one was perfect for what I needed. I would have missed work and lost out on several jobs costing me money. I was just asking about the limited slip and why it was advertised and not on the vehicle, especially when I paid for it. I returned home upset as I hate confrontation. I even called Mitch back to apologize, and he informed me that I had hurt his pride and called him dishonest. I also don't recall getting an apology back. I guess he felt justified for acting completely unprofessional. The following Monday I brought the vehicle to my mechanic to have a tune up and a tranny service as it was shifting rough from first to second. It was brought to my attention that several problems existed in the truck. The biggest one was that the knock sensor that governs the Supercharger needed to be replaced. The SuperCharger was in "fail safe" mode and not operating. Driving it for any length of time would damage the engine. So much for the complete mechanical check done by your "Grey Team". A few other expensive items were also discovered. The turbine sensor needed replacing, power steering gear box needed replacing, catalytic converter needed replacing, and the "Check Engine Light" had been mechanically disabled. The wire had been cut to the bulb. The check engine light is one of THE most important safety items on any vehicle. It warns of minor and major engine problems. Also, the left headlight was pointing up and to the left, the seat belt switches were disconnected, the rear seat latch was inoperable, the rear cargo light did not work, lights on the heater controls do not illuminate, only radio, not the CD player or Auxilliary Function was functioning, the trailer brake module did not work, along with all the other mechanical issues. All told approximately $3500 in repairs needed to be done for the truck to be in the shape that I assumed I had paid for it to be in in the first place. Everything I have read has said that vehicles sold by a dealership are assumed to be in exellent condition. I called back to tell Mitch what all the problems were and he only offered to pay for $ 400.00 for the repair of the knock sensor, after some negotiating of course. He initially wanted to pay only $300.00. I had the knock sensor replaced for $ 668.00 and the engine runs just fine now. As for the rest of the repairs he didn't mention those. "Buyer beware". The Sales Manager, Mike, who I dealt with, was very decent and he did say that problems like this are usually looked at by the dealership inhouse. Honestly, I would not bring my vehicle to Rairdon's to have anything repaired, as they missed extensive issues on this truck. Having my own trusted mechanic work on the vehicle is worth every penny to know the truck isn't going to leave me stranded somewhere. People, like me, go to a dealership because they trust that a vehicle has been checked out and that's generally why prices are higher. My last used vehicle was purchased from Wilson Toyota, and it was an excellent buying experience from start to finish. They are extremely professional, honest and trustworthy. However, there were also several mechanical problems with the vehicle I purchased from Wilson's. They fixed all of them, with no questions asked and at no charge to me. The vehicle was one of the best SUV's I've owned. I don't think Rairdon's techs even looked at the my vehicle. I paid way to much for this truck for the actual running condition it was in and I think Mitch knew it, I think that is why he was so eager to refund my money. But I could be wrong. Either way I lose. Third party advertising excuses, misrepresentation of a vehicle, third party agreements, buyer beware comments, being bullied, "bull rushed" and intimidated in the parking lot of the dealership, threatened with a team of lawyers, after being assurred the truck had a full safety and mechanical check and that all was in working order. Any one of these would have been bad enough but put them all together and it is unbelievable! Terrible customer service and public relations across the board. Mitch was not exactley customer friendly. When my wife and I came in to negotiate for the truck, salesman Shane made an odd comment about, "don't be surprised if you hear swearing and things being thrown" as we were asking for a lower price than Mitch wanted to give us. That put us on edge. Writing this was very difficult for me as I don't like conflict and try to avoid it, but people in our area need to know whats going on and what they can expect from Rairdon's. Its safe to say that I would NEVER come back to Rairdon's nor would I reccommend to any of our friends, family or aquaintances to engage in business with your dealership. Bellingham is a small town, and referrals, or lack thereof, can make a big difference. In a perfect world, to be fully reimbursed for the repairs needed to get the vehicle to the running and driving condition is what I would hope for. After all, this is what I had assumed I was purchasing to begin with. This is the is the first, and certainly last, experience I have had with Rairdon's. It was not a pleasant one by any means, but felt I needed to voice my opinion with the unprofessionalism at the way I was treated, and the lack of honesty in regards to my vehicle purchase. Update: Since recieving a letter about this incident I was contacted by Rairdon's Corporate man Micah. I inquired about what was being done about the way I was treated by the Bellingham General Manager Mitch Robert. He said nothing was being done about the incident, and that nothing was going to be done. No acknowlegment, no apology. I did ask him about the misadvertising of the vehicle and he admitted that there was a problem with the third party posting of their vehicles and that it was being looked into and that it was simply a matter of changing software to get a more accurate reporting of the vehicles. He also said that the vin # on my vehicle was reported as having a limited slip as an installed item on the truck I purchased. I have since gone to the Nissan Dealership and had the same vin# run and it reported as the vehicle NOT having a Limited slip installed. This sort of verification should be on the dealership not the consumer. This is not a private party transaction. This is why consumers go to a reputable dealer to get a vehicle that has properly inspected. He also told me he was going to only fix the check engine lite and reconnect the seatbelt sensors, very minimal repairs that should have been caught on the initial safety inspection. Not repairing any or the major items that that should have been discovered before they put the truck on the lot to sell. I am paying for things twice. This is a very slippery and dishonest way of doing business. Dealing with Raidon's is truly "buyer beware". He also informed me that because of the age of the vehicle no additional repairs would be done by the dealership. I have also talked witht he Service Manager Norm at the Bellingham dealership and he said that yes the "check engine lite" is the easiest thing to check as you simply cycle the ignition and then look at the lites on the dash. They all come on at once. Or should. Simple procedure. Rairdon's did not do a complete and proper mechanical check on this vehicle and it was still put on the lot for sale. Stay away from this dealership!!! More
