Wrong Expensive Diagnosis Our 2007 Mazda CX7 ( 119K miles ) was often hesitating significantly upon acceleration. I got scanner codes P2177, P2187, P2188, P2195, P0302, P0300 w Our 2007 Mazda CX7 ( 119K miles ) was often hesitating significantly upon acceleration. I got scanner codes P2177, P2187, P2188, P2195, P0302, P0300 which relate to mixture rich/lean and misfires. Moved cyl2 coil and plug to another cylinder but misfired did not move! I went to Mazda of Puente Hills (Mar2017) in for a diagnosis ($140). They claimed a new high pressure fuel pump was required for $1300. Service person would not provide graphic readout to substantiate. I told him I would rather scrap the car(AC not working, minor body damage). To me the pump issue did not make sense as the car could accelerate well after hesitation which would not be possible with a weak fuel pump. So I assumed the front oxy sensor could be bad so I had a Fullerton mechanic replace it months later for $200. All codes went away and no hesitation. I later got code P2402 Evap Emmision Leak detector pump - bought for $70 and installed myself. Now all codes are gone for $270. And have stayed off as of July 2018. So a dealer may try to sell you the most expensive service first then later sell more repairs figuring you will continue as you have much invested. Lets see a possible scenario: pump $1300, replace one fuel injector $400?, replace one coil $200, then finally the oxy sensor $300 so $2200++ if more injectors & coils . Note this was my only service experience there. Mazda CX7 repairs required: thermostat, oil cooler gasket, timing chain, valve adjustment and of course the very infamous AC compressor(vane type, no longer used I believe). Mazda for the most part is put together well and is quite functional, good styling, good performance, excellent brakes and handling but parts and repairs are expensive. If you must buy a Mazda, pay about $2500 less than a comparable vehicle with a top reliability rating. More
