I have been servicing my Toyota vehicles for many years at Prestige. They are always professional and courteous, answer all my questions and do a top notch job returning the vehicles clean, with all the is at Prestige. Jeff was my Service coordinator. Hey arranged for a shuttle as not to disrupt my day and kept my updated as to the progress of my Vehicle. I brought my vehicle into Prestige at the 100,000 mile mark hoping to obtain an accurate and rigorous diagnostic summary of what kind of service may have been needed. Who better to appraise my Toyota tha mark hoping to obtain an accurate and rigorous diagnostic summary of what kind of service may have been needed. Who better to appraise my Toyota than Toyota technicians? I did so knowing full well that while I'd be getting accurate diagnoses and recommendations, I would probably be charged handsomely for any work needed. Dealerships, in my experience, have charged top dollar for their service. No different this time. Brake pads alleged to have been sufficiently worn to warrant replacement turned out to have been like new. Similarly, rotors were smooth. A follow up call - in Toyota's defense - did uncover that a "warp" in the rotor or brake pad made for a "chattering" feel which would have gotten worse. So why wasn't that included in the diagnostic report? And why was brake pad wear reported inaccurately? Recommendation to replace serpentine belt was made which, when the old one was examined, looked fresh (...it had been replaced less than a year ago). Toyota wanted $447.00 for a "minor tune-up." We changed the spark plugs ($32.00) in about 30-45 min. Toyota says its labor rates are $150.00 per hour. Therefore, approx. $400 to perform a "minor tune-up" seemed excessive. Brake parts cost approx. $260. The quote for repairs was just over $700. It took us - without excellent tools - approx. 1.5 hours to change out the brakes. There again - $700 seemed excessive. I could go on but the point has been made. Toyota has an excellent product. The service rep. Jeff Cicero was polite, knowledgeable, and accommodating. The service garage organization and appointment procedures were smooth and well coordinated. And I feel confident that my car, with the recommended repairs, would have been returned to me in excellent condition. Perhaps that peace of mind is worth the exorbitant fees if one isn't car literate and/or has a generous amount of disposable income. Getting estimates, of course, is the best course of action and if you trust a private mechanic, you might wish to think twice before taking your vehicle to the dealership for servicing. More
