OBD II Readiness Codes would not set on 1996 993 My 1996 993 passed all Smog Tests except "OBD System Check". This is a known problem with the 993 series. The car is 22 years old and has less than My 1996 993 passed all Smog Tests except "OBD System Check". This is a known problem with the 993 series. The car is 22 years old and has less than 100,000 miles. The service adviser recommended a top-end rebuild to resolve the "premature valve guide wear." He estimated the cost at $10 - $15,000 to do it right. Steve asked the Service Technician (Mark) to identify the cause of the OBD error and try to resolve that problem. They replaced two oxygen sensors and performed two extended road test (75 miles) to set all ready codes. Total cost $850. Courtesy car was provided and the work was completed in two days. Customer service was good. However, Porsche should stand behind their products better. I have never owned a car in the last 50 years that needed $10,000 plus repairs in less than 100k miles. More
