I generally do not go online and provide reviews but I felt the need to share my experience at Pohanka VW service department. In December 2021 while visiting Maryland we took our Volkswagen Tiguan in for felt the need to share my experience at Pohanka VW service department. In December 2021 while visiting Maryland we took our Volkswagen Tiguan in for oil change, tire rotation and advised Gabe the service writer the vehicle was consuming/burning oil at a rate of 2 Q's every few weeks. The Technician advised we needed a new engine because the engine had an internal seal/gasket leak allowing oil to be burned internal although no evidence of oil found leaking on the ground. We were getting ready to return home to Florida after the holidays and did not want to have an engine failure while driving so we took their advise and approved engine replacement at $10k and purchased a Powertrain extended service contract for peace of mind. Shortly after arriving in Florida the check engine light came on! I took the vehicle in to our local Volkswagen dealer to determine what was going on. The Technician advised the vehicle needs a new turbo. I could not understand how the turbo could fail as soon as a new engine is installed unless the Turbo was actually the reason for original concern “burning oil”? Did the Technician at Pohanka VW mis-diagnosed the root cause of the oil consumption? I believe so, because the Technician never did a tear down to determine cause! I thought to myself well I have a powertrain service contract so the turbo would be covered minus my deductible. Well Easycare the service contract provided does not cover a turbo as part of their Powertrain contract it is a high tech item. I have called Pohanka VW and tried speaking with Gabe and left voicemail messages for John the Servicer Manager but no one has reached out to me or returned my calls!! I feel taken advantage of by Pohanka VW from the Service Department and Caroline in the Finance Department for selling me a contract that doesn’t cover a powertrain component such a Turbo that is part of the engine. I recommend you avoid this Dealership!!! More
New Purchase with Trade - Great Experience! From the top down, it was a very good experience. The team was professional and courteous throughout the process and that’s hard to find at most dealerships. Notable names worth mentioning who made this a great experience are GM Dan Fitzgerald, Sales Mgr. Cassie Ullrich, Salesman Chris Blanchard and Finance Mgr. Mariah Clock. Each of them were genuine and professional and we will definitely recommend his dealership to anyone looking for a VW or even a used car for that matter. More

They gave the best deal in the area, have followed up with me to make sure I'm satisfied with everything. I was in and out of the dealership in 20 minutes (financing was already arranged before I got there) I can't think of anything I would have wanted different in this buying experience. More

During the test drive I noticed a pulsation in the brakes and steering wheel when the brakes were applied. I decided to buy the car provided the pulsation when applying brakes was fixed. The dealer gave me a "we owe you rotors" paper I live 4 hours away from the dealership. So I decided to not take the car with me the day I purchased it so that the dealer would have sufficient time to fix it Unfortunately for me I picked up the car yesterday at 5:30 pm. While driving home it became clear the dealer was not good for their word to fix the pulsation In summary the sales staff made the purchase process very easy. Unfortunately their service department is poor Now here I am 4 hrs away and have to get this fixed on my own dime on a car I purchased less tan 24 hrs ago More
Great to deal with from start to finish. They went out of the way to make sure I was satisfied. Couldn't ask for better service. Made car buying easy. They went out of the way to make sure I was satisfied. Couldn't ask for better service. Made car buying easy. More
Classic Bait and Switch I recently sold my VW TDI back to VW as part of the buyback settlement. I loved the car but couldn't turn down the offer VW gave me. I knew I wanted a I recently sold my VW TDI back to VW as part of the buyback settlement. I loved the car but couldn't turn down the offer VW gave me. I knew I wanted another VW to replace it with and settled on the VW Tiguan. I also knew I didn't want a brand new vehicle as this is a commuter car and thus not one I wanted to take out a loan for. I searched online and found a used 2011 Tiguan on cars.com from Pohanka listed for $11,000. I called the dealership to see if it was available and was told it was. I drove 45 minutes from Virginia to take it for a test drive. I pulled in the parking lot and was immediately lead to the showroom to the salesman's desk. After sitting for 15 minutes or so and discussing my wants and needs in a vehicle (like I said, I had already made up my mind what I wanted and knew what I came to see), the salesman went to get the keys. Before doing so, he asked where I saw the vehicle listed and the price that it was listed for. 15 minutes later he came back and said that the car "was no longer available." I asked if it had been sold, and he said that it was in service, so I asked when it would be available to which I never got an answer. He then proceeded to ask if I wanted to look at another Tiguan 1 year newer. I said I wasn't really interested, but I would take a look since I had driven over an hour and a half round trip to see a car. He then comes back and tells me that that Tiguan is also "not available." I then asked again when the Tiguan I came in to look at would be out of service as I didn't mind coming back to look. He again did not give me an answer either way and simply said it "wasn't available." He then asked if I would be interested in looking at new vehicles or a lease. After I told him again that I was paying cash to replace my commuter car I had just sold back, he asked if I'd be interested in a Kia. I left without even being able to see one car let alone the car I came to look at. Looking online several days later, the Tiguan was still listed on both cars.com and Pohanka's website. On Pohanka's website the price, however, was over $13,000 over $2000 more than what it was on cars.com. I contacted Pohanka to see if it was available and was told that it was. I then proceeded to ask about the difference in price and was given an explanation that is found in small print on their website but not on cars.com which states "Prices exclude dealer installed options, tax, tags, registration fees and processing fee of $300. Not required by law. All used cars are subject to an additional $1,495.00 Reconditioning Fee." To my understanding, this would have meant that the higher price of the vehicle on their website would have also had $1795 in fees added onto it not that the lower price listed on car.com would have had it added to make it equal the price listed. The description of the vehicle on both sites even states that the car is "under $11,000." Regardless, the price listed on cars.com is clearly just a bait tactic to get customers in to look at a vehicle at a low price knowing that the car will not be sold for that price. I went to Stohlman VW in Tysons Corner, VA the next day where I purchased a used Tiguan with fewer miles and more options for an even lower price than what the Pohanka Tiguan was listed for on cars.com. I was stopped at a red light on Rt 13 South not very far from the mall and when the light turned green my car had stopped completely and when I got it started it was a rough start and the EPC light came on. I drove into the visitors info center on 13 and stopped the car, got out my manual and learned what the EPC light was and then started my car and the check engine light came on with theEPC light. I wasn't sure if I should drive it back to Georgetown. I put on my 4 way flashers and drove to Pohanka VW. I was pleasantly greeted by Charlie Cauffman and explained my problem to him. He was very concerned about my problem. I had to wait a couple of hours to have it checked to see if I could drive it back to Georgetown. This wait I realized was not Charlie's fault & waited patiently, but when I realized it was getting close to 5:00 I ask Charlie if he thought I could drive it back and mentioned to him that I have a certificate from previous owner of Dover VW (now Winner VW) for 15 percent off on parts & labor. Reason for this is I had an existing problem with my engine light staying on numerous times and after them talking to VW America the only solution was to put an engine harness on which was close to a $2,000.00 repair. Since I had already paid Dover VW around $1,000. In repairs numerous times to fix the problem the manager gave me the certificate for 15 percent off on parts & labor for the lifetime of my vehicle. Otherwise you would have had a new service customer. Charlie offered to put his pocket code finder on it and then check with tech. But then decided to ask the tech. to drive it in the shop and check out the code to see if I could drive it. Charlie then came to me and explained the problem. Oil is leaking on the speed sensor and damageing the vacuum pump. He said I could drive it back and advised me what to do if it stopped on me again. Charlie went above and beyond. He was very caring and compassionate. He was very detailed in the explanation of what was wrong with my vehicle. I also observed how very busy he was and how he spoke with all of the customers in a caring manner. I found your waiting area to be very clean and all of the conveniences that you have for the customers were very generous. Sincerely, Jessie M.
