Hi wjdennis, Thank you for reaching out to us, we buy many vehicles from people outside of a normal trade-in for a variety of reasons. Other than responding to individual inquiries and a having a small blurb on our site, we don't actively solicit this kind of business. With any of these transactions, we put absolutely no pressure on anyone to part with their vehicle if they are unhappy with what we offer, we simply shake hands and part as friends. When James came to your house to appraise the car and review what the guides suggested the wholesale value of your car would be, he was absolutely clear that this is what he thought was fair and it was up to you to decide if you wanted to go ahead. Given that this was a car over 10 years old, far outside of any factory warranty, of a different brand than our franchise, and that hadn't been driven much lately, we were naturally, and necessarily cautious. Please keep in mind that we must give that car our full safety inspection, make sure it is fully repaired in any way that is needed, fully reconditioned, market and sell the vehicle, then stand behind it. It's true that we're a business and we make a profit from selling cars, but it's not as simple as buying one and turning right around and selling it. There's a lot of work from multiple departments that goes into it, a heaping pile of risk and uncertainty, and (as you mentioned) ultimately the market decides what it eventually sells for. These are some of the reasons many people don't want to bother selling their car privately, it's not easy! Hopefully this explanation helps to ease your mind and illustrate that the difference between wholesale and retail isn't all profit, far from it. We're very interested in trying to make this right if you're willing to discuss it with us. It sounds like you don't drive your car much, so I wonder if that might be part of what's going on. We often hear brake noises on vehicles that aren't driven daily and this time of year, as the temperature changes, we see tire pressure changes too, which can imitate alignment problems. The only way to know would be to take a closer look, which we are more than happy to do. Appreciate the response. I didn't use my real name just in case I need to go back for some weird reason. You ignored my comments about the alignment, about the ignition problem (both of which again dropped many hundreds of dollars) and now there is a chirp/squeak deep in the engine somewhere. just over 30k miles. Also this ins't the first issue with P.S. service At about 25k the OEM battery was leaking and corroding the top bracket holding it in. Took t to P.S. when it was done I asked the front desk "so I got a new battery?" "No, they cleaned everything up, you are all set." So I took it to local guy and got a new battery. I mean really???? What I was charged at P.S. was more than getting the new battery installed by local guy. At this point I'm not sure if it is the car or P.S. that I don't like. Subaru supposed to be a superior automobile but 30k miles I cringe when I drive it. In any case will trade in soon while it still has value, for another make. Probably Volvo.
