I gave this 4 stars so that this review would not be too buried as many other warnings are. My initial review, though accurate to my experience, violated this page's policies. Usually I would let that go, but as a responsible and caring adult, it is imperative that I do what I can so to save at least one person. Even if all I can do is tell my story. This also allows me to give an update on what happened. Everything I will state is absolutely true. On July 4th, we purchased a car Planet Honda on route 22 in Union. I wanted to walk away because the prices seemed too high but we were assured that "a certified used car would cost more than a regular used car because it would be almost like new." I also did not like that they kept ignoring me and just referring to my partner because he was the one to not ask questions. They also kept pushing the paperwork through not allowing us to fully read and understand what we were signing and kept hopping around the most basic inquiries. Against my better judgement, and to my partners delight, eventually we took the car home. We drove it less than 5 miles home and I updated the computer to the car. Once that was done, the car self reported the issues it had. I will give it to Hoda, that feature was surprisingly welcomed and very helpful because we then would have no clue what was going to be wrong with the car. Unfortunately less than an hour after that, the car died. We went back to Planet Honda the next business day and had asked for our money back. The very first thing Edward Gorham, the supposed manger, told me was "How do I know you did not break the car since you updated it". Then he continued to be rude, arrogant, belittling, and insulting. The rest of the staff was kind, helpful, and assured us that it was just a battery over site. I requested that the car be fully check up including the warnings that the car had self reported. Not only did they claim that they checked everything out, they gave me a receipt as proof which listed what was checked out. On this receipt, it shows the claim that they checked out the transmission. Reluctantly we took the car back with promises of warranties until 2024. For 3 months we took care of the car and then my worst fear , which I stated to them in July, happened. The car stalled in the middle of the highway. Just a sudden stop and shut off. The transmission died. I believe that this does count as a life threating situation that could have been fully avoided because the care self reported transmission issues 3 months prior when we first purchased the car. We were told that the warnings were wrong and triggered by a dyeing battery. To add injury to insult, although the car's registration, title, and the loan was under my name, they called my partner (and yes they had my number) and told him that we had to pay $8,700 to get the car fixed. Mind you, they charged us $38,000 for a used Honda oddesy and we did not find out the bump in price until our first payment and the excuse for this was that this was a "certified used car". So to catch up, by this point they sold us an over priced used car with a faulty battery, a faulty transmission, oh and brake problems. This is not some small shady used car sales place. This is Honda, one would expect a certain quality behind the name. When I called to ask why did we have to pay so much money when 1. The car had self reported that there was a transmission issue in July which means that car was sold with a faulty transmission and 2. We would still be under warranty and we were told "Remember, if it's under the hood, you're good", it would be covered. That was when we find out, that the car was not actually certified. Apparently, though on the very building it says certified used cars, and every person we were speaking to during the sale claimed that the car was certified, and the "certification" of the car was the reason why the car was so expensive. It, in fact was not certified. See, in the stack of paperwork that was pushed through, supposedly there was one page that said it wasn't. As I said above, I found out odd that they wouldn't actually let us read what were were signing and now I know why. I fully believe that the paperwork was there because Edward was very cocky and almost gleefully was asking me where was it in writing that the car was actually certified. As he said "Just because the dealership says we sell certified used cars doesn't mean that the car is actually" or has to be certified. Now please understand that just because we happen to survive a dangerous and avoidable situation due to a faulty product, that does not mean that things are ok. As any human being who was put in danger due to willful negligence, of course we would be upset. To then be met with the attitude of oh well, it not every pleasing. Mind you, I just wanted the car fixed and to go on with my life. The condescending attitude was not needed. The next thing that was done is that I was sent to service. I will not lie, they where calming, kind, and understanding. Even to the point that I apologized for raising my voice while speaking to them because it wasn't them who were laughing and patronizing me. Service did tell me that they will call Honda and try to see if Honda would help with the transmission as it broke down only 3 months from purchase. I was not satisfied because I was told that we would still have to pay. So I called a few lawyers, and started writing reviews. Again, the car reported transmission issues, we raised concerns about transmission, breaks, battery, and other things the car reported, They claimed they checked it all out and claimed that they "stand by their work", and gave us paperwork of their claims. We had a grounds for a law suit or a refund and I was just asking to get the car fixed. In the original review, when I said that buying this car from this dealership was dangerous, it was because...again months prior to this incident, important information was actively ignored and it lead to a dangerous situation. Stopping short in the middle of the highway can lead to deadly accidents, especially when you are on the same highway with speeding Mack trucks. We are down right blessed that we are safe. This is not a "one angry customer" thing nor a stretch of a point of view nor a personal vendetta against one person. It is a true statement that stopping short in the middle of a highway can lead to injury or even death and that this situation could have been prevented. When I mention Edward, it is because both times he, Not the whole dealership, was every rude. In fact, the only time he was fully perfectional was when he called regarding the original review. I knew something was up because he absolutely denied any attitude or ill behavior knowing full well how he was face to face only days prior to the call. The one thing both me and Edward agree upon is to read all of the paperwork no matter what you are told. So basically, do not trust any words. If paperwork is stacked, separate them and read them thoroughly. Read your financing contract, ask for the total price, and what will your first 6 payments be. Do not just take an explanation of your warranty, actually read it and cross reference their enforcement online. Ask as many questions as you can and if they are not directly answered, assume the worst because the second you sign those papers, you are stuck even if the car is faulty. And I repeat one myself one more time, the car self reported issues as soon as it was updated, which was within 24 hours after purchase, and just 3 month later the same issues actualized. That makes a strong case for believing the car was sold faulty. And I stand by my word that I am NOT the first and probably not the last person this has and will happen to. I just seem to be the most vocal. Now because I am a woman of my word, I did tell Edward that when things change I will update my review. I was called and told that since the transmission broke down so close to the sale of the car, Honda had agreed to replace the transmission. I thanked them for it, But I was not told when the car would be fixed and will returned. I have a feeling that a certain someone will be petty so it would be a while. Hopefully this time they take the car's warning's seriously and we are not put in another dangerous situation being that we are stuck with the car. I can not influence your choice in where to purchase a car, but I can tell you from my experience defiantly buyer beware here. Also, it may be a good idea to have a contract lawyer on hand. Yes, most of the people at the dealership were very nice and I was told (not proven so I am sure that it is true) that the transmission will be replaced free of charge. But it doesn't change the fact that we were sold an over priced, uncertified, faulty, used car under false pretenses. And yes, though uncertified they did check out the car, but that is because we openly preferred to just get the car fixed instead of suing. Please don't let this happen to you. P.s. I understand that I repeated a few things and that is because I need people to understand that though the things I repeated are true, this dealership will still smile in your face and you will still be stuck with the car. We lucked out, we didn't get hurt and the car is being fixed (again so I am told and you see what happened the last time I believed them when they told us something. So I am not sure they are being honest with me or not ). You may not this lucky. Also, the reason why only one person is mentioned by name here is because I wanted to make sure that the whole dealership is not blamed for the rudeness of their management. I fully believe I was treated this way by him because I was I woman as he did not speak to nor treat any of the males I brought with me the way he treated and spoken to me. I also believe it was because I was a woman of color that he assumed that I would not be smart enough to know how to handle myself. He made this part clear when he was entertained at the fact that I was able to update the car computer on my own. It does not matter what company you work for, you can be in the biggest corporation or an independent sales person on the street corner, it is not ok to belittle and condescend your customer, especially when they are being respectful towards you during an already upsetting situation. And if you are allowed to say how great your interaction was with a particular person at this dealership was, you should also be allowed to say if it was not great. As long as the review is honest and truthful to your experience. This was mine. Please be more careful with yours. Good luck. More
