The vehicle was checked on Feb 6th and the 158 item check was done for certification .Although the goal is to make sure that the vehicle is up to strict quality standards, there are items that might not show up until the vehicle is driven. The vehicle was a 5 year old vehicle with 6400 miles on it, it was not driven much by the previous owner. The first time that the vehicle came in, it was for a slight vibration and the steering wheel not being centered. Balance and alignment was done and the vehicle was road tested with those concerns rectified. It did come back in a month later, with the noise issue, at that time it was determined that there was a noise from the wheel bearing. The wheel bearing was replaced. Although it was only a month, the vehicle was driven almost 1500 miles and these issues did show up and were taken care of at no charge. The original certification check sheet showed the air filter as acceptable for certification. The second technician recommended the air filter 1500 miles later based on his judgment that it was beginning to get dirty (doing it’s job) and it is an inexpensive item that increases fuel mileage and efficiency. When inspecting an item such as an air filter, it is more the judgment of the person doing the inspection then a measurable specification. Our Pre Owned vehicles are carefully inspected and the investment is made by the dealership to deliver a quality product. The technicians, although human, do go over them carefully to make sure they provide the Sales Department the best information possible. Any vehicle not up to standards is not put up for sale on our lot. We would not “simply check all green to trick/entice a customer” to purchase one of our vehicles. Nether Matt, nor Pine Belt Nissan would do business that way.

The vibration issue that I called about first and went to your dealership to repair (purchased the car on a Saturday, called first thing that following Monday, so I drove the car pretty much a full day only) ended up being the wheel bearing that I had to come back for after driving the car 1,500 miles already (mind you, because I said I was moving out of state, I had to drive back to your dealership per the recommendation of Matt Troncone for you guys to revisit the issue I contacted you guys in the first place). Had your technician did a thorough check in that first visit, they would have determined that it was the wheel bearing that was causing the strange vibration that I noticed early on. Then I wouldn't have had that 1,500 miles on it after because I had to drive back to your dealership from Virginia whenever I became available to do so (which ended up being about a month after the initial visit to have repairs done). What you said about the the technician saying that the air filter was beginning to get dirty...well, why would the technician put on the multi-point checklist that it was in the "red" and that it was VERY dirty? It said on there verbatim, "VERY DIRTY." How could the filter already be "VERY DIRTY" if that had been inspected to be just "working fine" a month earlier on February 3rd? I'm not a car expert, but I do know that air filters don't go from "GREEN" or "working just fine" to critical "RED" and VERY dirty, even after being driven 1,500 miles.
