Good experience, only one issue I purchased a used truck from Phillips recently even though they are a few hours drive away from my home city. I did this for two reasons: first, they I purchased a used truck from Phillips recently even though they are a few hours drive away from my home city. I did this for two reasons: first, they were very helpful, responsive, and accommodating in the initial phase of the deal that took place via telephone; and second, because they were so much easier to deal with than the RAM dealership in my local city (Tallahassee). They evaluated my trade as much as possible via mobile phone photos and information I provided, and took photos and videos of the truck I wanted to purchase so that we both knew what we were getting out of the deal. We settled on a number that worked for both parties and I made the trek to pick up the truck. Simple and easy. The salesperson was phenomenal (Matt Hurd) and the finance manager was friendly and efficient (Brad Leonard). These guys had me in and out of the dealership in time to return home that night. Unfortunately this is when I discovered the “aha” moment. The tires on this truck were SHOT OUT. I mean bad. I didn’t notice in my test drive because we were on slow-speed back roads, and because the truck only had ~20,000 miles on it I gave them the benefit of the doubt. Getting up to highway speeds exposed the badly worn tires for what they were. The kicker is that these tires had been detailed and dressed with some kind of whitewall marker so in the dark, under the parking lot lights they looked normal. The next morning when I went out to see why the truck vibrated so badly it was clear that the front tires were done for. I can only assume that the previous owner either never rotated them or just took it out and destroyed them before trading in the truck. I didn’t plan to spend an additional $1,300 for replacement tires on a nearly new 2018 vehicle with 20,000 miles on it and this part of the deal wasn’t communicated so I’m removing a star. Had I caught it prior to driving it off the lot I would have negotiated a solution or driven away with my money. Anyone working at a car dealership would have and should have known better, but I didn’t catch it so shame on me, and lesson learned. Otherwise it was a good experience and I would do business with them again should the need arise, though I may kick a tire or two next time. More
