Phil Long Hyundai of Motor City

I went to the Phil Long Hyundai Motor City website and found 2 Hyundai Pre-owned certified SUV’s. I called the dealership and set up an appointment with Zach Smith. When we arrived Zach showed us the 2 SU found 2 Hyundai Pre-owned certified SUV’s. I called the dealership and set up an appointment with Zach Smith. When we arrived Zach showed us the 2 SUV’s and we decided to make an offer on one of them. The Hyundai Pre-owned certified SUV was advertised on the website for $20,885 and listed the benefits that Hyundai Pre-owned certified vehicles come with. One of the benefits listed was the 100,000 mile powertrain warranty. The SUV had a large scratch, so I offered $19,500 and expected a counter offer. Instead Chris the Sales Manager came over and not only asked us to pay full price, but added an additional $1,250 to the $20,885 for the Pre-owned certification. “The 100,000 mile powertrain warranty” . Needless to say my wife and I were confused why they we’re advertising a Hyundai Pre-owned certified SUV with a 100,000 mile powertrain warranty for $20,885 on their website and then tried to add $1,250 for 100,000 mile powertrain warranty. Chris the Sales Manager explained that SUV could not be discounted because it was a “loss leader” item. He went on to explain that the SUV was advertised cheap so people would come in the store to look at it and then be moved to a more expensive SUV. When we asked how they justified adding the price of the 100,000 mile powertrain warranty to the advertised price of $20,885, he said the SUV qualified for the Hyundai Pre-owned certification, but didn’t actually come with it. And that if we wanted it, we’d need to pay the additional $1,250. My wife and I briefly explained that this practice is called baiting and switching and that we thought it was unethical. Chris the Sales Manager smiled and said he disagreed and basically told us to take it or leave it. We got up and left and bought a Pre-owned certified Subaru Outback down the street with a warranty. Not being from Colorado I asked several friends and co-workers where to go and was warned to avoid any Phil Long dealership, but I wanted to give them a chance and they failed miserably. He got me into a 2018 Sonata SEL, he did such a great job that when it was time for USAA to take away my wifes vehicle we came right back to him and not only found my wife the dream car she has always wanted (2019 Veloster Turbo Ultimate). He was amazing from the start, not pushy like other salesman. When it was time for us to get a truck, he was the only person I reached out to, He found me a hidden gem. He asked exactly what I was looking for, I gave him everything and he was on top of it. He found me a 2005 Toyota Tundra, I asked for the perfect "work truck" and he delivered.
