“At Peterson Toyota, your complete satisfaction is always our top priority” – Until your satisfaction costs them money that is. “Our friendly staff is committed to your complete satisfaction so you can rest our top priority” – Until your satisfaction costs them money that is. “Our friendly staff is committed to your complete satisfaction so you can rest assured that you’ll love the way we treat you at Peterson Toyota.” Or “Peterson views a car sale as the beginning of a relationship and a welcome into the family.” Well, it sounds good when you read it on their website, and it makes you believe they will take care of you. Until you have problems with the $40,000 vehicle you just purchased and the vehicle has preexisting problems they “missed” during their inspection and you’re trying to get your vehicle in proper working condition. If I was to tell you that within 50 days of ownership, I was only able to drive my vehicle for only 31 days, would that make you feel good with your purchase? Or how about finding out that lovely, new to me used vehicle that you just purchased needs a new Transmission, Shifter, is missing the Engine splash guard, has bent struts, missing camber and caster bolts, the body of the vehicle itself has shifted and needs the body plate adjusted as well as having bad breaks, an exhaust leak, damaged front splitter and low break fluid. Well, that is quite the list of problems to have with a used vehicle purchased from a supposedly reputable dealership and surely, they will make this right. After all it was their technicians that not only diagnosed these problems, but also recommend to have these problems fixed and repaired. At Peterson, they “stand by their work” according to assistant used car manager Dillon Stringer, and have no idea how these problems were missed. I mean at a minimum; they can’t even check fluid levels before taking your money? But Dillon Stringer said that regardless of the issues I’ve been having, he doesn’t have the authority to approve any repairs and that I need to talk to Raul Vasquez, the used vehicle manager. So, I called and asked to speak with Raul Vasquez but was only able to leave a message. So, I tried back the next day, only to get the same inability to talk with him. I followed up again and even tried asking my sales associate to see if he was there and of course he wasn’t, so he left a sticky note on his desk to please call me. You will never believe who has yet to call me to help ensure that my complete satisfaction was his top priority. Yup, Raul. Still waiting. Things haven’t been all bad though. They were kind enough to replace my transmission for me. Oh, no wait. That was the manufacturers power train warranty that covered that. Not really sure how during the in depth used vehicle inspection, they missed the fact that the transmission is shot and grinds going into second gear. I’m beginning to think this vehicle wasn’t inspected and it was just pushed through so they could make a quick sale. But their technicians did install the transmission for me. But then they forgot to attach the Shifter Linkage and I was then unable to shift my car into gear in rush hour traffic a few days after I got it back. Then I was lucky enough to have to have it towed back to the dealership at 11pm. I’m still confused as to how you replace a transmission and forget to secure the Shifter Linkage? But this just adds to my long list of questions. I’m now stuck with a vehicle that has a serious safety issue (Bent struts) that is supposed to be covered under their 90-day “No worries, Drive happy” free warranty. Written in black and white under “Suspension” it even lists “Struts” as a covered item. Yet, this covered fix was declined, along with 6 other items. They claim that they can’t verify that I didn’t hit something and damage the struts myself. Strange because I’ve been mentioning this problem since I bought the car and was told time after time that their technicians couldn’t duplicate the problem and to come pick it up. Well, leaving the parking lot I could still here the loud pop as the suspension flexed when turning, even my 6-year-old daughter asked what the noise was time after time, yet their certified and trained mechanics couldn’t duplicate the sound? Huh. Well, it’s a good thing that broken / bent struts are not problematic and don’t have the potential to cause permanent damage to the vehicle or make it unsafe to drive. Oh wait, bent or broken struts do lead to serious issues! Bad struts can cause permanent damage to the vehicles Engine, Transmission (go figure), destroys your wheels (good thing my Pirelli PZ4s don’t run about $400 per tire), Shock Absorbers, Springs, Power Steering, Sway Bar and can cause bad joints. And the potential for the vehicle to have an accident. Everything I’ve read and been told is that this problem is most often related to the vehicle being in an accident or sliding hard into a curb or something. That narrative would fit along with the other issues I’m having and concerns me that the vehicle was in an accident before I purchased it, but they somehow missed all the signs and felt like making a quick buck. So not only will I not let my kids ride in my new car, I barely drive it now. I’m sure that is the satisfaction they’re striving for. The Peterson dealerships are not going to look out for your best interest like they claim and have proven several times now that they will not stand by their work. They won’t even return your call as a matter of fact. I traded my truck in towards my dream car and was supposed to receive money back for the trade in, but that took over a month and not once did I get a call to update me on what was going on. I am pleased to have found that these Unfair, Deceptive and Abusive business practices are covered under the Automobile Fraud statute 9.4.3 and 9.4.8 of the National Consumer Law Commission. I hope that this helps to provide a little insight into the deceptive business practices of Petersons and helps to prevent someone else from getting treated the way that I have. More
