My BMW 528xi blew a rod bearing at 80k miles. I had all repairs and service done at Peterson BMW in Boise, except for 1 oil change 3 weeks prior to the car giving out. Ryan McCalla at Peterson offered a no repairs and service done at Peterson BMW in Boise, except for 1 oil change 3 weeks prior to the car giving out. Ryan McCalla at Peterson offered a no-charge, complimentary inspection and diagnosis. After looking at the car, they said that the cause of the issue wasn't apparent and it didn't appear to be negligence on my part or the part of the shop that did the oil change. The quoted cost for a new engine through Peterson was more than the value of the car. I asked Ryan to see what they can do internally to figure out a reasonable solution. Ryan said he would "Go to bat for me" with Peterson management and that he'd get back to me the following Tuesday. There was no communication from Peterson that Tuesday. I sent an e-mail Tuesday asking if any progress had been made. Ryan ended up calling me back late Wednesday...after I called and left a message just prior. When speaking on the phone, Ryan did not mention a conversation with his manager until I asked him about it. His response was, "I spoke to my manager in passing. It looks like we won't be able to do anything for you." Speaking to management in passing is not "going to bat" for a customer. Ultimately, Peterson posited no viable solutions, though acknowledged that a BMW should not "blow up" at 80,000 miles. To add salt to the wound, My wife facilitated the tow and was charged $145 by Peterson for the "complimentary" inspection. It's very shady to add charges after the fact. I'm very unhappy with BMW, Peterson BMW and Ryan. More
