I had a deeply disturbing experience with this dealership. I suggest others avoid them, but if you do go, be very cautious. Good faith disagreements about price are to be expected during negotiations. Sometimes a deal just can't be made. But NoHo VW was boldly and repeatedly dishonest with me. Most upsetting was how easily they lied. The dealership made a cash price commitment to me through TrueCar. After taking a test drive and intending to purchase the car that day, they refused to honor their commitment. Instead they tried to charge nearly $4k more than the certified quote (and well above the Edmunds suggested price). At first they simply denied they made the quote. When I confronted them with a screenshot of the online quote, they agreed to honor it but only if I financed it through them. But the TrueCar offer was a cash offer and that's how I intended to make the purchase. After a long, heated, maddening negotiation, they finally agreed to honor the cash offer. We made the agreement, each party accepting the other's offer. The experience was unnecessarily unpleasant but the deal was finally done. But wait! Northampton VW was still not prepared to honor a commitment -- even 30 seconds after they made it. They instructed me to hold on because someone else was interested in the same car. Then poof! The car disappeared. It had been sold, they said, while we were talking. "First come, first served," they said. But I *was* first. I was furious. Still I wanted the car. I reminded them they had another car almost identical to the one I thought I just bought. They didn't care. There were no more automatics on the lot, they said. (This was visibly untrue. It remains untrue 24 hours later.) I then said I would take one of the two manual transmission cars on the lot. Nope. They simply cut off communication entirely. The most intimidating consumer to these salespeople is a well-educated one. I knew the car very well. I knew it's fair market value and what it had been selling for. They tried every imaginable trick to fool me into paying a highly inflated price. They used high pressure techniques; they tried to gas light me; they were smug and dismissive; they used the old bait and switch; and they lied and lied and lied. It's a horrible feeling to have someone look you in the eye and lie to you repeatedly. It's deeply upsetting. And I know we all say "what do you expect from car salesmen?" I'd like to suggest as consumers we don't continue to expect or accept such craven dishonesty. It's not difficult for a dealership to offer fair prices and still make substantial profit. But as far as I can tell, Northampton VW has no interest in being fair -- or honest or respectful to their customers. I strongly recommend you find another dealership. Buying a new car ought to be a little bit fun. It's no fun knowing your salesman is lying to your face in an attempt to squeeze every penny he possibly can from you. I hope you chose not to support this cheap thievery. More

I got a such a great price on a used vehicle that I did not even try to negotiate. The sales person was friendly but not well organized or knowledgeable about the vehicle (perhaps because it was not a VW). not even try to negotiate. I hoped the vehicle would be ready to view and test drive. It took 15 minutes to bring it around front and find a plate. It had not been washed so it was hard to assess the cosmetic condition of the paint. It took an hour to complete the paperwork. Even without negotiation, the sales person still has to go back and forth with the sales manager. You have to pay in full the day you decide to buy if you are not financing, which is nerve racking. (What if the dealership went out of business or damaged the car before delivery?) The finance person did not try to sell me anything else, like an extended warranty or glass etching, so that was a nice change. I had to follow up with sales person twice about the delivery date. On the day of delivery, the sales person was out so another stepped in. The delivery consisted of giving me the paperwork and the keys outside in the rain. The vehicle did not have an inspection sticker because their machine was down but they did reimburse me $35 one week later. Because the vehicle was less than 2 years old, it did not need much reconditioning. It was washed but not detailed. (I could not tell on delivery day because it was raining.) The steering wheel still had some grim on the controls. There was no touch up done to the scratches, most of which I could get out myself with my polish. Admittedly, this is small stuff. I got a good vehicle at a great price. However, it was an average experience with the usual delays and waiting. This dealer’s promotional material highlights how ...”you are going to love it here” but it seemed like the same experience as every other dealer. More
